Hey Andlaw, I found this on another forum. I was wondering if it would get mms working in your Black Widow. Maybe you could integrate it into your next update, if it does work. Thanks again for a great rom.

I put the apk in my system. Replacing the mms.apk file does work, if permissions are set properly. The XML file is not needed. This apk does work to allow sending and receiving mms, tested with a picture to myself. However, the messaging looks horrible.

One thing, the contacts do not pull contact photo when in the main list of messages. The photos did appear once in a conversation, or when tapping the box from the main list.

I already switched back to the mms.apk that was included with the BW ROM. I am about to attempt to decompile the apk, though I would be surprised if it decompiles nicely. Hopefully it will though, and perhaps will be able to shed light on how to get the mms moving again.

Same here, switched back.

I'm using Handcent as my default messaging app. Uninstalled stock through Rom ToolBox. Customized messaging, implemented Kii Keyboard as default keyboard, send/receive of MMS works fabulous.

I am naturally distrustful, thanks to experience. I used to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but have been burned too often to allow that behavior to continue. I avoid using commercial software whenever possible. Many companies are using mobile apps as a way to serve ads. I absolutely DESPISE advertisements, and try my best to prevent them from being displayed on my mobile device. I am also wary of using any commercial software to serve my messaging needs, to avoid datamining issues.

I am actually working on my programming skills so that I can make my handheld realize its potential. Thanks to communities like this one, these devices can realize capablities far greater than the manufacturers and carriers release them with. Sure, there are many people releasing applications that can do this or that, but generally the apps are hobbled in ways to generate income for the developer. Not that earning a living is a bad thing, but many of these apps find a desirable trait to serve, then remove key portions or inject it with bloat to generate income. I prefer apps to provide a single function, and use the modular setup of android itself to allow other apps of the users choice to handle other functions. Such as, why would the mms bother with changing the keyboard, the system will already have a keyboard, so leave it well enough alone.

I found another forum with promise for fixing the MMS here.

This is a pull of the 4.2.1 MMS.apk and the supporting framework. Their attempt was to integrate group messaging options into a 4.1.2 client, though it may serve our needs as well. As it requires a flash, I am not sure that I will put it in just yet, though I may end up dropping another BWHD into Slot-2 so I can try it out. Since my handheld is my only internet connection, I am wary of doing anything that could break it without having documentation ready on how to fix it if needed.

Hmm, now I am doubting that the latest link has a chance of working. After some investigation I found out that the TW they mention means TouchWiz.

The picture I had sent with this was still in my history after changing back to the MMS in BW. I am able to forward either the sent or received photo, and it will send. I was forwarding to myself, and in both cases was able to receive it as well. I am also able to receive mms from another number, and forward that picture back out.

Now I am wondering if the force-close has to do with whatever process is used to package the photo into a message.

A side thought, should we move this discussion out of the BW HD thread? Also, Andlaw, would you mind making a note in the OP that MMS will FC when attaching a photo?

I just found this out, can someone else test and make sure it is not just me.

Attach > Slideshow > Select a photo > Return > Send.

This seems to be working for sending a photo. When sending this way, a single slide, the sent message seems to be the same as just selecting a photo, except it actually goes through. A passable workaround.

Mine load the picture, but crashes when I try to send. It never says anything about needing to resize the picture like normal.

The slide show does work for me.

Thats how mine was crashing as well. Good to know that the slideshow working is not just a fluke for me. I was wondering if I made something tweak out when changing in and out of the several other MMS.apk's I tried.

Perhaps Andlaw will note it in the OP to use slideshow to send pictures until it gets fixed.

I'm wondering if the Fix Permissions is the key. Reinstalled this ROM as I had it installed, switched to a different ROM in another slot for a day, went to go back to BW and it was GONE, the old ROM that was in that slot prior to installing BW was there. Anyway, I deleted/re-created the slot, wiped all 4, installed ROM, rebooted & no-go, re-booted into SS wiped dalvik/fixed permiossions, re-booted and bingo all was good.
