Greetings! I arrived at this forum almost a year ago with a brand new to me phone that reading the many posts on this site helped me to unlock and root, but now I am having some trouble. My Razr Maxx HD took a tumble (one of many, I am afraid to admit, though it has always been in a good case!) and now is acting all sorts of silly. It does not want to open any app with images or media- ie, the photo gallery, Youtube, most internet pages in Firefox, which is the only app I have for web. When one such app is selected, the screen will freeze for a moment, then go black for a while with just the top bar of icons and the lower buttons still visible. It varies how long it will stay black, but you can return to the home screen by pressing the home button and waiting a handful of seconds. Some simple game apps still work, as do the calling and texting features, but it is quite laggy when you type and the messages take a while to load. I tried doing a factory reset but that did not seem to do anything, so now I am online to ask for help. Nothing I have searched for sounds like the issue that I am having, so I am not sure if it is even fixable and if I will have to get a new phone.

-Droid Razr Maxx HD with service from Verizon, unlocked and rooted with the help of towelroot and motopocalypse

-System version 182.46.10

-Android version 4.4.2

-Kernel version 3.4.42

 

If more information from the phone would be useful I can post it, but you might have to tell me where to find said information. I was pleased as punch to even get my phone rooted by using the basic method that I did, so small words would be nice as I am still pretty new to the whole rooting thing. Thanks y'all!

With any luck you may have shaken loose a connection.  There are how to videos on youtube that will show how to replace broken screen on your phone, while yours isn't broken it will show you where the connectiions are and how to get to them. I would check there first (search for your model XT926).  Also you could reflash your phone and upgrade to the last and newest kitkat 183.46.15.1.  I doubt the software has anything to do with this unless the main board and memory took some damage.

If your not technical or hands on. Try a fresh firmware flash of your current version. The screws can be rather small and frustrating for larger hands. pay close attention to the videos for the various clips that hold the bezel in place, once stretched they won't fasten properly.

Thanks for the advice! It is much appreciated. I started looking up videos about checking the insides of the phone, but that seemed pretty involved so I am thinking trying the firmware flash might be easier. That is reloading the "copy" of the phone I took when I was making changes to the phone during rooting, right? Fun thing is that I cannot find where I saved that in the massive file dump of stuff from phone to laptop before the reset. It is here somewhere, but there are some many gigs of folders to sort through. The good news is that I have the right tweaker set with the bits to open the phone and rather small hands.

No a firmware flash reverts the phone back to its out of the box condition. A pure stock OS that you manually set up, its a pain but it helps rule out any software glitches

So it took some time as I am crazy busy with work, but I checked the internal stuff of the phone. When compared to the phones in the tutorials it appears as if everything is secure and connected where it should be. Also, thank you Soocold for the heads up about the clips on the bezel. Those things were finicky! Guess the next step would be trying the firmware flash. Time to search the forum for a how-to!

Not a problem. I've replaced several screens most recently when my daughter decided to tap the drums on my N7 with an actual drum stick
