are you in fastboot mode, is it a usb 2.0 port, are you using the real Moto cable the phone came with, are the drivers installed properly.....

I am having the same issue. The phone is in the home screen. I installed the new motorola drivers and I do have USB debugging on. I am running a non-HD Razor Maxx. I tried in Fastboot mode too and have the same issue.
12:44 Update, found my issue. I needed to reboot the phone after installing the motorola drivers on the PC. Why dunno, but it started working from that point forward.

Could someone advise in what direction I need to go with my phone?
It's a Razr Maxx running 4.1.2 and has been rooted for years. Until the JB update where it appears that I am stuck in some sort of root limbo (first picture below). I was hoping this exploit might help, but it doesn't seem to be working for me (second picture below). The exploit was done with USB debugging on and in MTP mode- MotoCast is v2.0.31. I have tried unrooting, which has no success either.

You can also open command window and CD into the directory where you have the root utility.. Then use the above command.....

It would appear Bluestacks was my issues with multiple devices.
The exploit on the first page worked for me, so I now have root access again.
However, the saferoot-moto did not. For some reason the installation of SuperSU failed. I guess the bottom line is I now have root access again!
Thanks for the help!

I've returned with good news. I've found a solution for the problem. A user on the XDA forums was able to help, luckily before I began a clean wipe.
You need to have your lock screen disabled. So : Settings > Security & Screen Lock > Screen Lock > None
I think it essentially just allows access to the phone and files where it kept getting denied and failing to find files.
The maintenance update Verizon rolled out this week WILL BREAK ROOT, BUT the exploit does re-root.
I forgot a couple of points along the way which required me to make about 4 attempts before I got it right.1. Follow all the directions.2. Make sure you re-enable smart actions if you had frozen it. You must then go to "manage apps" and clear data for the smart actions app.3. Go into developer options and enable USB debugging4. When you connect the USB cable make sure you are in MTP mode NOT mass storage mode (this caused me 3 attempts before I found my mistake)5. If you are getting failures in step 3 of the install you either need to clear data on smart actions again or double check you are in MTP mode.6. During the "cleaning up" stage, there is a superuser request for ADB shell that you may not notice if your screen times out. The install won't complete until you grant ADB shell root. Watch your phone at this point so you don't miss it or you will be sitting around waiting like I was....Anyway, good luck to you and just know that it does re-root.
I did all of this and it worked great for me.

I got this when I hit enter too soon before "Battery Saver" was finished saving.

This works very well, the instructions are explicit, follow them and you're good to go. Don't forget to allow access on your phone during "cleanup phase".
As a side note, I screwed up system files after achieving root access when trying to open up tethering. Long story short, copying the .db file onto your PC, changing
entitlement value and recopying to phone DOESN'T work, you have to amend the database value on your phone (use SQLite Editor, best $3 you'll spend). I had to FDR the phone and the phone maintained root, no issues. Hotspot\tethering working great.
Thanks Dan!

I can'r seem to get the RazrBlade bat to get past the smart actions. I followed the instructions, cleared the app data, didn't see any updates but it just won't get past this step. One time it installed Superuser but didn't root properly and every time after it fizzles with no feedback after I follow instructions and hit enter for the next step after Smart Actions battery saver.
