Have a question, I used Matt"s Utility a while back and I'm rooted and running a custom ROM on .16 JB. I want to redo everything on my phone and start all over again. Do I just use option 1 then option 3 when I reboot to stock on my phone? I want to install SS3.65 which I have on the SD card on my phone so I won't need to use option 4. Just wanted to make sure I don't mess something up. Thanks for anyone's help.

Having the same issue from way back earlier in the thread with permission being denied, not finding files, etc. And apparently I have to do a "clean data wipe."
My question is, is there any other way to do this?? I really have to wipe my phone clean to root it? I spent a decent time organizing my home screen and apps. Not to mention all my contacts and such. Is there any other way to root??

A clean data wipe will do just that.... Wipe everything..... However, your contacts should be backed up to Google anyway.... If not you can manually back them up.... As with SMS and MMS can be manually backed up prior to a full wipe..... Hangouts is automatically backed up to Google as well.......
Got it. Well in that case... is there a way around it? I have my home screens organized (took for ever) and I really just don't want to go through the process of installing and restoring my phone. Is a clean wipe the only way around the problem?
Here's a screen cap: (I'm using Matt's utility here, but I get the same error with Dan's)

That's the only way. The exploit needs fresh smart actions to work

I've returned with good news. I've found a solution for the problem. A user on the XDA forums was able to help, luckily before I began a clean wipe.
You need to have your lock screen disabled. So : Settings > Security & Screen Lock > Screen Lock > None
I think it essentially just allows access to the phone and files where it kept getting denied and failing to find files.

Hi, First time rooter here. I have the RAZR Maxx and trying to get the DLL files loaded on my WIN 7 64 bit PC before I proceed. I get a warning that the DLL may be for 32 bit machines. Is that the case? I am installing the DLL via the command line using regsvr32.exe
Once I get that far the root should be a snap from wat I have read. I looked thru the forum and do not see anyone else with this question. So likely a cockpit problem on my end not knowing the right way to add the DLL files. Or maybe they do not run under 64 bit versions?
Thanks!

I have the same phone and a 64bit machine. I had no problems what so ever. Read op guide and follow the steps. All I did was unzip to desktop and ran .batHi, First time rooter here. The maintenance update Verizon rolled out this week WILL BREAK ROOT, BUT the exploit does re-root.

I tried Voodoo as well. Didn't work for me.

Voodoo Rootkeeper worked for me. I did find the Voodoo prompts to be less than clear. As I recall I read and reread the instructions several times before I understood the right way to use Voodoo. There were at least two button clicks required. One to backup root another to remove root (To the best of my memory; not sure about the order). Then after taking the OTA update I had to go back into Voodoo to restore root.I tried Voodoo as well. Didn't work for me.
