I'm an idiot. Didn't have phone connected through MTP mode. Worked fine.

Dan, thanks for all your hard work! I'm new on this forum (spent a lot of time at XDA until I got a Razr), but I'm not a complete n00b at this stuff, yet I must be doing something wrong. The exploit executes, but fails at a few points, and since the exploit has worked for others, I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong, or there's an issue with the phone. While executing the script, it seems to fail on pushing pwn.jar, as it indicates that 0 bytes were copied. The full output is below. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Had the same problem but after I Factory Reset it worked just fine. I'm running the newest update 4.2.1, just updated today actually and it still worked.

Thanks

That looks like the error when you have not extracted the zip file to your desktop and are trying to run the bat file from within the zip

SQLite :) Then you don't have to use FoxFi.

Yes that one. If you search the forums for "sqlite hack" you'll find it. I'm mobile right now so I can't really look it up.

Newb to rooting and first time post. Just wanted to give a big thanks to the developer and that root was successful:)

Only question I have is, since I modified Smart Actions during the root process (battery saver), I now have that SA enabled and it dims my screen? Can I go into SA and disable that function or do you have to keep it turned on indefinitely?

Go ahead and turn it off. That was only for the rooting procedure

Hi everyone,

This root tool worked very well for me. However, there is just one problem. Now, when I plug my phone into my laptop with a USB cable, the virtual keyboard on my phone behaves very strangely. When I type, it will behave erratically, and type letters multiple times, or enter letters that are nowhere near the keys I pressed. For example, while my phone was plugged into my laptop just now, I typed, "the brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," however, this was the output on my screen: ".the breypeowon fox djuqtycmzupedk qeouvberrqt .thladeo .ladafjzvmry dog." As soon as I unplug my phone from my laptop, I am able to type with no problems whatsoever. I have tried unfreezing everything in Titanium Backup, I have tried all three USB computer connection settings (Mass Storage, MTP, and PTP), I have tried disabling all developer options (USB debugging, etc), and I have tried restarting my phone, however none of these options corrected the problem. Does anyone else experience this problem or know what would be causing it? I am running stock Android 4.1.2 (Jellybean) on a rooted Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Thanks!

Update: this no longer seems to be a problem for me. I re-froze all my old apps and everything works fine. I'm not really sure what caused the problem...could be my laptop?

I too used to use FoxFi, until it no longer worked after the Jellybean update. I found a free alternative app that works really well on Jellybean called "WiFi Tether for Root Users":

If you are rooted why would you not use the entitlement change?

Just curious.

That's a good question. I did consider that option, and actually did find an instructional video for how to implement the entitlement hack here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6nCcbJkngY. However, I prefer the WiFi Tether app for a few reasons:

1. It's simpler, easier to implement, less potential for error.
2. The SQLite Editor costs $, whereas WiFi tether is free.
3. The UI gives you more options and is easier to quickly turn on and off.

Update: I ended up downloading SQLite (also had to upgrade to SuperSU Pro for it to work). I figure these could be useful tools in the future anyway. I implemented the entitlement hack, and it seems to works quite well. As far as UI goes, I simply added a hotspot switch in my notification bar using the "Settings Extended" app, which I highly recommend, btw. I figure using the native android hotspot app is probably more efficient than the WiFi Tether app, anyway. Thanks again for the suggestion.

this is the easiest rooting I've ever done...

Before using xt912 I used N7000, I9100 all the Samsung family...little bit tricky though for rooting 'cause u have to get inside the recovery section..

But this....one click and then done

waattt a jeniusss....thanks mate

Hello,

I followed these instructions to root my Razr Maxx and everything went ok. I then tried altering /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl accourding to these instructions (I made a backup of the file)

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

The modification didn't help me with my headset volumn control issue, so I put the original file back. Now my side buttons (power and volume) aren't working. The only way I can get the screen to come on is to plug the phone into USB.

I've tried 2 factory resets and I've confirmed that the Generic.kl file in /system/usr/keylayout/ is the same as the one I backed up.

Is it possible that the root procedure broke the side buttons? Is there any way to completely reload the OS on my phone, like through side loading or something? I noticed that the factory reset doesn't really seem to wipe out all the files because one of the copies I made of Generic.kl (Generic.bak) is still in the /system/usr/keylayout/ directory.

Any help would be greatly appriciated, this is the first time I've tried to modify my phone and I think I've trashed it.

Is the Generic.bak the original file? Have you tried deleting the modified Generic.kl and renaming Generic.bak to Generic.kl?
