Thanks again, still haven't given up on sorting this, but even after going back thru setting exactly as on paper, I am still foiled. Rebooted twice...will go to a no wifi available environment to see if that makes a difference.

Afterward, I got FoxFi working again by installing SQLite (a $2.99 purchase), and following these instructions.

The difference is my phone's entitlement check was on line 150, as opposed to the example. FoxFi works again, and all is good.

Now I need to decide where to go from here with my rooted phone.

Many thanks to the OP, and all the help provided (including the other posters).

FWIW, if you go through with the SQL trick and reboot your phone. Foxfi isn't even necessary. The stock Moto/VZW Hotspot app from the Settings menu will work just fine. Hope this helps. :)

On stock JB it's line 66 :)

tucstwo, found the entitlement where you quoted, line 150. Stock XT912 Razr on OTA jelly bean.

I could not get the wifi tether app 3.2-beta2 to accept a connection as described above. I did go for SQLite and now native tether working. Installed Titanium back up. Couple of reboots and it is running...maybe time to delve into a ROM...after some more reading.
Thanks to all for the help!

You are using the wifi tether for root users with my way right? Maybe you can google it and find an older edition. Ihave had mine on my card and TB for a long time. I think its 3.0 or 3.1

Yes, wooddale using the wifi tether for root and strictly followed the instructions you generously provided...thought about an earlier version but with JB, figured most recent would be best. All looks fine on the Razr, it is the "client" that just tries to join and spins away, never connects. The client has no problem with other AP and when Razr was ICS with PDAnet, it was A-OK.

The one I have is 3.1. If you google Wifi tether for note 2. You can get the latest which is 3.3 he says it works.

Thats what he says like I say I have 3.1 and it works. Unless something vot messed up when you rooted. Sometimes guys just start over again and it works no reason why.

Well, tried the WiFi Tether - TrevE Mod (root users) 3.3 pre2...still no luck.

I did see the tablet recognize an ip and subnet that looked odd.

IP Address: 169.254.64.230
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

the 169.254 range is for a host that cannot find a dhcp server and cannot get an IP address....

Thanks. I figured since I'd already purchased FoxFi, I may as well use it.

Well, I think if you use FoxFi, it's sort of a redundant thing. I'm pretty sure that FoxFi works by using the built in hotspot. If you did the sqlite hack, there's really not much sense in having another app running when you're just ending up using the same app anyway ;) .

Well if you 2 would read the title of the thread, you would see that it says XT912 ONLY. There have also been about 50 comments telling you guys that it will only work on the XT912.
