We can probably help but you need to provide more information than that. Do you know how to open the Terminal app? If you can do that and follow the instructions in the OP you shouldnt have too much trouble.

You can find Terminal in Applications/Utilities.

I've followed I believe all of the instructions but it's still not working. It has installed superuser but when I check for root, it's not there. Here's a screenshot:

Any ideas?

The issue is probably with your smart actions updated. You can try to go into apps and clear app data and cache on Smart actions also uninstall updates if available. If none of these work then you will need to restore using the Utility and root prior to logging in to Google

I did wipe the phone (not photos and such). I'm trying to do this now before logging into google. I can't go into the play store since I'm not logged into google. I'm stuck here. I did go to smart actions app info and clear data. When I rooted this phone a year ago, I had it done in 5 minutes. I'm going on 5 hours now...

If I were you I would use Memnochs other suggestion.....re-flash and start over.

Use the utility in this thread:

After you flash with Option 1 (or 2), do NOT login to Google and then immediately do the other Option for root, and you should be ok.

I'm doing that now but when I go to install the drivers from that package, I get this error message: 07.15.2013-13.46.png

should I just continue on or should I first try to uninstall the Motorola Drivers that are on my computer? The phone I'm trying this on is Droid Razr Maxx XT912. Thanks.

How do I make sure the phone is in AP fastboot mode?

Update: I figured out AP fastboot mode and now am running that utility. Fingers are crossed! My wife is giving me annoying looks (it's her phone)

I rooted my XT912 well over a year ago and am still on Android version 4.0.3. How should I go about wiping my phone and going about this new method so I can get the latest ROMs?

Easiest way is to use Matts utility:

Wanted to say that this thread was extremely helpful. I have now successfully rooted my RAZR, which is quite an accomplishment considering I needed Google's help just to find the command prompt on my Mac.

Thank you all.

You're smart actions app has been updated. You need to fastboot back to stock then root prior to logging in to your Google account

milesbass123,

It's been several days since you posted your issue.  I hope I'm not too late to help.

I ran the .bat file at least a dozen times.  I always saw the following errors listed while running the .bat file during Phase 3:

failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists

After much frustration, I re-read the majority of the previous posts.  I saw a suggestion, and decided I had nothing to lose, as I still wasn't rooted.  If your phone's anything like mine (250+ apps), it takes a long time before your interface is fully up and functional.  The suggestion was to increase the Sleep time in the .bat file from 40 to 80.  I increased to 100 just to make sure, though 80 might have worked just fine.

In the run.bat file, edit the following line in the run.bat file to read at least "sleep 80":

It currently reads:

echo [*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
adb shell "sleep 40"

I ran the run.bat file again and I was rooted; no errors.  This is the only mod I made to anything.

Good luck!

extending the sleep time to 80 worked like a charm after a half dozen unsuccessful attempts.  I have 212 apps installed.
