Please read up a few posts... You need to do a factory reset then root again prior to logging in to Google

Thank you so much. I was intimidated by the lack of knowledge on the matter to go through the threads, but this has helped! I appreciate it!

[*] 5. Press the Home button.
[*]
[*] Press enter here once you have completed the above steps.

780 KB/s (3477 bytes in 0.004s)
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists
[*] Rebooting device...

So I have seen multiple of people having this error. And the fix is to is to wipe data and cache or something. I did not do that. I did not want to loose any or have to reinstall my stuff. So I went back to the instructions and read again as you are suppose to do when you have an issue BEFORE you post to ask what you did wrong.

In the instructions in the rooting program says:

"Before continuing, ensure USB debugging is enabled, that you have the latest Motorola drivers installed, and that your phone is connected via USB."

Another post says:

Windows-
-Download the zip file and extract.
-Connect device via USB (Make sure you have the current Moto drivers FIRST!)
-Make sure USB Debug is on
-Make sure you have Smart Actions fully installed, unfrozen and unmodified
-Make sure the phone IS NOT in mass storage mode
-Double click run.bat

And someone else somewhere said "Mass storage should be turned off" but did not give much more than that till a page or two later.

Then in the root program it says:

[*] Complete the following steps on your device:

[*] 1. Open the Smart Actions application.
[*] 2. Select "Get Started".
[*] 3. Select "Battery Saver".
[*] 4. Select "Save".
[*] 5. Press the Home button.

The first time I tried this rooting program my problem was I saw no "Get Started" In the "Smart Action" app. So I clicked the "+" at the top and clicked "battery saver" as the instructions said then clicked save. BUT I got the same errors as others are getting. At the beginning I had that "Smart Actions" thing disable so I went to Google Play Store, searched it and enabled it. I had uninstalled all the updates months before and disabled under "Settings>apps>All" trying to get rid of that thing.

Zeenah: thanks for your update. I too was stuck and unable to root because I had some smart actions already programmed  Once I deleted them.. everything works just fine and I'm now among the ROOTED!

I see, however on this video

it clearly says Razr and Razr MAXX. So it is all a bit confusing.

Well, lets see.....your profile or whatever says you have an XT912, so if thats the case, we get to have a good laugh as the utility you are using doesnt work on that device.... :)

You would need Razr Blade. If you have one of the devices listed, than you have a problem but posting here wont help as much as posting in the right place.

Messed up, not anything that we shouldnt be able to get right :)

But when I try the links in the OP, I get the correct utility for the XT912.

You posted this: [*] Motochopper: Android root exploit (Windows version)

What you should have and is in the OP should say this: [*] Razr Blade: Motorola Droid Razr 4.1 Root Exploit (Windows version)

[*] Waiting for device...

* daemon not running. starting it now *

* daemon started successfully *

and thats it.  Thoughts?

***edit

GOT IT!  USB wasn't showing up in Device Manager... used another!  Finishing now!

***edit edit

I think it worked..... wasn't sure if I should do anything when it asked about Superuser requests.... third time I hit grant.

Thank you so much for this!  Been waiting for this day for over a year!

No worries, we have all been there before :)

If you cant get Razr Blade to work, it may be because your Smartactions got updated. You can try to remove the update, via Manage Apps, find the 3 smart actions apps and clear the update. If that doesnt work, the easiest thing is to get Matts all-in-one JB utility,

Use Option 1 which will wipe the phone, install JB fresh and then without setting up your Google account, use Option 3 to root.

For those using the OSX / Mac script, I updated the razr_blade.sh file in order to get it to install. Like others in the group, I was getting the error that others have posted where the script would fail. Rather than perform a FDR i used it as a clue that perhaps the phone hadn't completely settled down yet when the script was trying to continue. So, my change was to change the Sleep command in the script from Sleep 40 to Sleep 80. After making this change, the script ran perfectly.

Hope this helps anyone with the problem on a Mac, although I suspect the same situation could apply for a PC.

This was also required on the linux script.  Fixed and worked like a charm.  This works for the chmod error at step 3 that many users have posted.  If any linux user isn't saavy enough to edit the script, I'd be happy to assist - it's all about learning new things!
