I had my Droid Razr Maxx rooted and the December 11 4.1.2 Jellybean update. I made the mistake of installing boot menu manager. I somehow lost root and through an uninstaller uninstalled boot menu manager. When the Verizon recent Jellybean push update came through, I tried installing it but it would not install and it caused my phone to loop (keep rebooting). I did a factory reset and .got back to the December 11th 4.1.2 and everything worked very well but Verizon kept pushing the update. I kept trying to install it and went through the process above 2-3 times. I called Verizon tech support and they authorized a replacement.
I just received the replacement but with it is a warning that if the hardware OR software was altered they can charge me up to $500.
The problem I have is that multiboot is still installed and I have no idea how to get rid of it. I'm sure all the problems with the new push update are related to Multiboot which, unfortunately, has no instructions whatsoever. I even wrote the developer and offered to pay for help in removing it but the developer hasn't responded.
I tried several times the razr blade exploit but have never gotten beyond the phase where I turn in battery saver in smart actions. I completely wiped my phone yet again (except for the unwipeable Multiboot which could cost me some serious money if I can't get rid of it) and I can't even get the phone to reboot the first time despite enabling USB debugging and media storage not MASS storage.

I desperately need help and am willing to make a decent donation or payment to whomever can help me get rid of multiboot in th next couple of days before Verizon charges me for the replacement phone. If I retrun the replacement and revert to the December 11 4.1.2 update, Verizon will continue to push the update .
Help, please!!

Help, please!!

You need to use Matt's latest utility to fastboot to the stock JB 98.72.16 build. You can find it here:

This will get rid of everything on your phone and put you to stock JB.

@ tompisut and others getting the permission denied error

If you get errors the exploit will likely fail. Motorola has not patched it yet, though. I have all updates for smartactions already done on my phone but got it to work regardless of that by clearing the data for the app. That takes it back to the setup screen when you run it. Also, you have to set up the rule in smartactions at the time the script asks, not before. Once I did this, I had no errors in the script output.

Have I need ROOT or BMM to install other version of actual Android?

For example to:
replace "ICS Retail.EU.FR" to "ICS Vodafone.en.EU"
OR
replace "JB Retail.EU.FR" to "JB Vodafone.en.EU"

As entailed in the thread title, this for the XT912 ONLY. No other devices.

Can someone please walk me through this? Complete noob here. I've managed to root my droid razr maxx. but before I mess with anything I want to make sure I've backed up my files.

I tried using CWM and apparently that won't work with Droid Razr Maxx at this time.

How do I go about installing and using SafeStrap? And once installed, how do I set up my back up using this new recovery?

Okay, the Utility you want to use

  • Should have your Utility Open ready for your Choices
  • Then Chose # 3 for Safestrap...Once Installed
  • Install Recovery...
  • Couple of ways to get into Safestrap...
  • Long Press the Power Button or
  • Download the Quick Boot App...
  • This will give you 4 options...
  • Chose Recovery and this will bring you into Safestrap
  • As it starts to boot you will see The M Red Logo...Once this goes by on to the Safestrap Red Screen hit the Menu button Now your in Safestrap..
  • Note, it shows a Field Icon for Backup...after its completed Reboot...
  • Thats it...If you decide to venture into using Slotted ROMs...Please READ all you can first...Just so you understand the process

Thanks bubba, I managed to download Safestrap using the utility, however, I still can't get into recovery mode for some reason. Even with the Quick boot app. it restarts my phone and brings me to the android with a red triangle and exlamation point and doesn't do anything.

I should also add that I have Boot Manager so on loadup I see an android with clockwork on it. When I tap the screen I get several options, one of which is recovery. I tapped this and it started a screen with "spyder" and "CWM" which I thought didn't work on the maxx, I clicked backup from there and chose full system backup. Am I all backed up? and if so, where is the file and how do I activate it if I brick? I'm confused as to if I even need safestrap or not now

When you see this ^^^^ you need to press both volume buttons at the same time. That will get you into stock e3 recovery if that's what you're trying to get into?

Trying to boot up SafeStrap recovery. I've gotten into stock recovery before, but that doesn't help me as far as backing up my ROM

After reading your post again I found your issue. You can't run 2 recoveries. It needs to be one or the other. BMM will override Safestrap.

Ok so I uninstalled BMM, tried using quick boot app to boot into recovery on SafeStrap, still shows up at broken android, all I'm able to get into is stock recovery. Shouldn't it automatically boot into safe strap?

edit: tried re-installing safestrap, gives me this message: [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]

If safestrap already exists on my phone why wont it load? ugh this is frustrating, sorry about all the questions. I'm completely new to this, first time rooting a phone.

Personally, now that you removed BMM...

Using the Utility again, just start over follow the steps given...This way everything is Cleaned and No conflicts...Do the neccessary Wipes...after you do the Process...

I GOT ROOT! I'm going to structure this post in such a way so that it will be easily searchable by those who are having the same problem.

The issue that I was having was that the RAZR Blade exploit was giving me the following errors when trying to root:

failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File Exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exisits

Device: Droid 4
Network: Verizon
System: XT894
Android version: 4.1.2

What I did to solve the problem:

-Settings > Apps > Smart Actions > Clear data
-Settings > Storage > ≡ Button > USB computer connection > Select "Media device (MTP)
-Ran the exploit again. Went through with no errors. Upon reboot I had root access.

After I had root access, I went back to the USB computer connection and changed back to Mass Storage mode.

Thanks for all of the help you guys gave me. I really appreciate it!

What do steps 1 and 2 do? I had found the link to root my phone seperately so that's how I got it done prior to this thread. My phone was already on JB 4.1.2 from the OTA
