Your 'no' answer was the one that I expected, since all the current ROMs require the correct kernel to already be in place, or they don't work.

So ZK, out of curiosity, how are you getting around that problem? Is there an 'update the kernel' utility in your future?

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. The new update will be built off the .16 kernel. So it will require you to be on the .16 kernel if you want to take the update.

Just a bit of extra information, at this stage I don't think I'll be adding anything extra. The update will just be a port over of the 2.0.2 test that I posted.

I hope that clears things up :)

Excuse my ignorance, but is all the bugs worked out of the aosp MMS.apk? As in it can send pics/MMS as well as SMS like the messaging.apk did? Or is the MMS bug still present?

Yes, you can send pictures with the AOSP MMS.apk. However, some people are reporting that group messages are being a little funky sometimes.

OK ZK, I've been on the OTA for a couple of days now, and its battery usage is not up to par with what I've become accustomed to while using Aviator. So I'm counting on your update to bring things back up to where they should be. :) (yes, I know I could swap kernels and use Aviator now, but that seems like too much trouble, for now...)

Make sure the phone is entering deep sleep. Wipe Cache and Davik Cache again and download CPU spy to make sure you can enter deep sleep. :)

P.S if you want Beats working be sure to download the test build on post 717

Just checked w/CPU Spy, it's showing plenty of deep sleep (and, oddly, nothing above 600 Mhz in the past 16 hours).
No worry about Beats, the only time I use the phone for anything that might require audio, it's bluetoothed to my car stereo and playing old time radio shows. Which is not something where I can tell much difference in the sound. I guess there is only so much you can do with a 60 or 70 year old recording. :D

OK, let me make sure I have this all straight. I can update to the OTA and it sounds like battery life is worse than Aviator. I can accept OTA and install a utility to change kernals and regain battery life. Will I lose root when I accept OTA? I would assume I would. Can I run Rootkeeper and then re-root after the OTA? I do not want to lose root as custom ROM are the best but I want to see what Verizon JB has to offer. Best options ???

Sorry, I misunderstood you, I thought you had already changed kernels to order to use the ROM :P I would definitely recommend it at this point since at this stage my week is very busy and deving gets the back seat at the moment.

Yes, battery life on the stock .16 OTA will be worse than custom ROMs. But you can still take the .16 OTA and then switch to the .8 kernel in order to use Aviator until I can get a .16 based Aviator update out. Use this to switch kernel:

Read this to make the OTA update to .16:

but it basically means that you can use Matt's 1.90 utility to get the .16 update. It isn't too hard to take this update, but if you get stuck go to the chat room. There are great people in there who are always willing to help :)

ZK is, of course, right. The 'for beginners' link he gave to you is the way to go. I updated from the xmas leak to the soak without losing root by using Rootkeeper - so no problem there.
And yes, battery life on stock ROM is worse than on a custom ROM, which is nearly always the case. Yesterday on the stock ROM it used nearly twice as much battery as it would have on ZK's Aviator ROM. If it annoys me sufficiently I'll go use the utility to go to the .8 kernel and then go back to using Aviator, until then I'll just keep rooting for ZK to finish his update. ZK, I understand of course that other things take precedence, I know you'll get it done when you can. :)

Wow time went by too quickly!!! So apparently in the hole few days I was preoccupied and unable to check the forum, two awesome things happened...

1.) Apparently the Soak Test is over, and the official OTA JB will be pushed to all Razr, Razr Maxx users sometime soon

2.) ZK is already working on development of an awesome update to his rom for the official OTA???

How do you guys keep up with all of this??? lol

ZK, you are killing it as usual!
Apples are food. Quit being stupid, eat your food, and get a Droid.

Haha, yes, things have been moving fast these few couple of days! The .16 OTA update is out and being released in stages. This is the same as the soak test so at least we have seen and know what the OTA includes :)

I wouldn't say I'm "killing it" :P I'll start building the update when I get home. I already have a few apps done, so hopefully it wont take too long to do. We will see though!

Great news! Because I took the .16 Soak/OTA now and only have "Rage" rom installed in a slot and playing around with it and miss Aviator :(

Expect a .16 test build soon :)

Some things aren't working, such as the modules for the governors (HotplugX, PegasusQ, etc), so if you are enjoying being on the .8 build it would probably be better to stay on that. However, if you really want to be on the .16 build, then this will be for you :)

Keep an eye out, I will be after some testers :)

To everyone who wants to test a 98.72.16 build: Look at the OP! :D

Important things to note:
  • Do NOT use the Utility or Themes.
  • This does NOT have any governors built in. I am having a hard time getting the Modules init.d script to work. I have left the undervolt values in there, but the script no longer loads modules. The phone would not boot with the previous script.
  • Upon reboot you might have all sorts of FC's (Phone, text msg, etc) - reboot to fix.
  • This build has stock messaging app for now.
  • Ignore any ROM OTA Updater notifications
I am going to be working on these issues over time.

As always, feel free to post feed back. :)

Not sure if anyone downloaded the test build yet, but if so, re-download it from the OP. The first build Superuser wasn't working, but I got it working and uploaded again :)

Hey zk007

Love the rom been running it from the start, any chance when you do updates you could have one with the calendar and other items not inverted with the colors. I know allot of people like the black but i'm just not a fan. If there is way I can do it myself let me know.

Cheers
