So I just read a post at xda-dev, one the dev from 4pda community is working to root xt926 with firmware 183.46.15

 

and here it is

After reading this, I have a question to ask that it is only for the phones having fw "183" ? or phones with fw "182" will also work on  it ?

 

Any reply in this regard will be very helpful.

There have been mixed outcomes with this method.  We had a couple test it here and it was a no go, which makes me very skeptical of those who said it worked for them on XDA.

Unlock bootloader again?  If you have unlocked it before you are still unlocked now.

I used the Peroxide method, it worked for me 4 times in a row (I bootlooped it 3 times doing some experimental stuff and had to reflash the factory ROM each time).

You have to update to 183.46.15, if you're running 182.46.15. Also, you have to comment out a couple lines in order to get that update to flash successfully.

I suspect those claiming it doesn't work, either tried to use it on 182.x, or didn't modify the file before flashing.

Either way, they didn't read and understand the instructions.

From what I understand you can get root, but any attempt to unlock the devices bootloader ends you up with a brick. So if you are already have a unlocked bootloader this isn't necessary and could be dangerous.  For those that didn't unlock the bootloader when there was a method to do so and took the update to the .15 version of KitKat 4.4.2 would be stuck except for this method.  They still can't install custom recovery or roms but atleast they could make backups using TIB and get rid of bloat.

You understand correctly, either it bricks your phone or you accomplish nothing, but the guy I was responding to didn't say anything about unlocking the bootloader.

My post was more or less a warning to people that think that once they have root they can install custom recoveries and roms.

That's probably a good precaution.

I came from a Droid Bionic running CM11-m12 under the Kexec system, and was kinda disappointed that there's no way to run custom ROM's. However, after getting root, gutting the bloatware with Titanium Backup, installing Nova Launcher, Xposed Framework and GravityBox, I've got things customized in a way I can enjoy. It's almost enough to make me forget about custom ROMs. Almost.

I have a xt-926 that is unlocked that I keep around as a quick spare if my Nexus 6 is not what I want to carry at the time.  It is running about the same setup as you have and I agree it will do what I need it to do.

I am thinking however to start using my moto x as backup and really start playing with the droid razr maxx hd.  I am itching to try a couple of custom roms based on 5.1 that are hosted on this site and see how it does.
