im wondering if because I can't get it to completely power off something is stuck in memory that is reboot persistant.. the phone is borked either way. I'm going to let the battery die, then power it on with it plugged in and see what happens.

I wouldn't let the battery die, you may not beable to power it up with out a blackhat adapter or a special data cable that supplies power during flashing.

@living, Same result. To be clear, i unplugged the USB from the phone. Held power button down for 10 seconds, 2 seconds later, phone powered itself back on.

In the AP Fastboot menu, the only options I have are:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
Factory
Barcodes BP Tools
I let the phone completely die last night.. When I got to work.. I plugged it in, pressed power and it showed me a battery image with 0% charge. It would not power on. I let it sit for 30 minutes to give it some juice, powered it on, and still same result.. I'm stuck at the Moto Logo Screen, hangs, reboots, and then hangs again at the Moto Logo screen.
It feels like something is broken between POST, and initial OS hand off. I'm guessing the boot volume is corrupted some place but because I didn't root it, or unlock it, I'm pretty much shooting in the dark.
I'm about to throw in the towel, and get sent it in for warranty. I can't be with out a phone for much longer then today.
Any last things I should try?

Gave up at this point. Looks like I'll have to break down and pickup a new phone.
only thing really lost on this phone is a bunch of cat pictures and other random photos. I did a dump of it a few weeks ago so its not terribly tragic.
thank you for your help guys!

Fast forward today..
I got a new refurbished phone last week because thats all verizon would do for me..
well it didn't even make it a week.
It powered off today, and will not power on.
There is something about the last OTA update that has been pushed to this phone. so I would root this phone ASAP and get off of the OTA updates if possible.

That sucks. Had the same happen to a tablet with a OTA yesterday.
