ok, so verizon sent me a warranty replacement and I want to stay on ICS with root like I was before the Christmas day change...
which root method should I use for a 1 click method for ICS 4.0.4 that I can 1 click back to stock in case I want to upgrade to JB later? I searched, but there are so many methods I just want to get the latest/easiest one
thanks for all the info, mucho appreciated!

I did this by accident to make sure the phone was in mtp mode and then tried again and success!

thanks, I am rooted now it just took multiple reboots and installing drivers again. Do I need the safestrap recovery app? Thanks againChange your windows username.. If you have for example Jack & Jill for a logon name in windows, it will do that to you.. Create a new windows profile, something is wrong with your current one, name it something like Jack with Admin rights and try again..

no, luckily it worked after re-installing the drivers and changing from USB mass storage to mtp and back again. each time I switched it re-installed the drivers.Did you have to change your username, because I had an issue with one user on the same exact thing, and no matter how many times I re-installed and rebooted, remoted into his pc, it wouldn't work until he created a new user account without the "&"
