I'm fixed! I read your post and decided to give this a try. I ran Matt's 1.82 Step 1. That removed the encryption data error and put the phone into a bootloop, but it did put whatever was needed onto the phone from ICS to run the upgrade to JB. So, my phone was hard to see rebooting it was just alternating between motorola logo and black screen. I experimented with when to press power and two volumes to get to the stock recovery menu and it took me a few tries but I finally got there. Once there I chose "apply upgrade from external source" because I still had the JB upgrade on my SD Card. It ran the upgrade and I am back! I'm now on JB 4.1.2 only I am now no longer rooted. If you still have your upgrade on your sd this would probably do the same for you.

Thanks for the write up! I just came back to update that I did the same and had success, now I too, need root and safestrap. I have learned (the hard way) to always keep the latest ota on the sd card.

Great thread/knowledge base... Thanks all!!!

I am uploading and getting new links for for the Linux Mac 1.82 utility with the updated su binaries... I have Matt's windows version updated and uploading as well... so hopefully this will eliminate any further issues with the su binaries not updating....

I will be updating the Linux Mac 1.82 thread with the new link.... I will also post the link in the windows thread.... then links to both threads in this thread...

I'm just having bad luck...I'm certainly not new to rooting, romming, etc. I started with the D1 so I'm not a total noob, but I'm just having all kinds of issues here. I finally got SU binary updated and now when running the update in stock recovery (yes, I ran option 1 in matt's utility and followed all instructions exactly).

Now I'm getting a Status 7 error

Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("EMMC:boot:......................................")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Any ideas????????

EDIT:
I just ran options 1, 2, 3 again from the utility with the updated SU app and binary in the utility, and everything went smooth. A special thanks to Matt, Nitro, and Johnthehillbilly for your work/help!

I just read all 28 pages of this thread... Holy He11 that was rough. I successfully flashed my razr maxx and I am still rooted. It took a while because I ran into a couple of issues. I was on .215 so I used the utility to downgrade to .211, re-root, and install voodoo. I tried updating the su binaries but it failed on aquiring root privileges. I installed titatium backup and it did had root privileges so that confused me a bit. To fix the problem, I installed es file explorer and deleted the superuser.apk from /system/apps then reinstalled superuser and I was able to update the binaries. I did the steps of protecting root/temp unrooting then went into recovery and tried to flash but got the status 7 abort error. I think I got this error because I setup my google account and installed the apps needed to fix the superuser issue. I then started over using options 1, 2, and 3 on the utility and this time superuser was able to update the binaries with no problems. I proceeded to recovery and flashed the update with no status 7 abort error. Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen.

I have looked for the utility to downgrade... Where did you find it? (I am .214)

Yes, I have that one. I was hoping for a utility to just downgrade a few files without completely resetting my phone. The upgrade from .211 to .214 was fairly small, and maybe there is an 'undo' somewhere?

I had to run the su binary upgrade twice before it would work. So of it doesn't work the first time, try running it again. Worked for me. 

As others have experienced... just using the "simple" flash back to .211 leaves some stray files behind and stops the update or causes errors.... the best way is to run the utility... completely reset the phone then you will have a fresh clean start ......

Are there any issues with Exchange email or calendar in the leaked JB OTA? I saw one person in another thread mention difficulty, but people have said little about it here.

Thanks!

Exchange Email/Calendar is working fine for me.

Thank you! I suppose it is about time I cleaned it up. I have done several upgrades since I got it, not to mention SS and some Roms. I will take the plunge soon!

I was holding out on flashing but the crackflasher side of me wouldnt let me wait any longer so I used Matts utility to get back to .211 and then re-rooted and flashed the JB file and all is good :D . Jelly bean works great so far and I was able to restore root with Voodoo. Thanks Matt and the others who put the work in to make the upgrade so smooth!
