What is the unbrick procedure you mention? I soft bricked after going to JB and am stuck.

Matt created this unbrick jelly bean utility. Someone said it saved them.

You said you were successful in the doing the update... what did you do to soft brick? .... and can you still boot into stock recovery?

I stupidly installed Razr Clockwork Modtouch 5.8.4.5 Black Edition without seeing in the first line of the thread that it was for ICS. After installing this I ended up in Clockwork Mod Recovery menu and chose to reboot. The phone reboots and goes through the normal droid animations and then stops with an "Encryption Error". It says the phone needs to be Factory Reset and has a button to do so. Pressing the button reboots the phone and it goes through to the same point. I am able to power off the phone and boot into the Motorola Recovery. Running "wipe data/factory reset" does nothing. I am able to wipe the data, but rebooting brings to same error. I'm stuck.

instead of using matt's utility try downoading the fastboot file and using rsdlite. sometimes people have luck using rsd rather than the utility, and sometimes the utility works better than rsd. different situations i suppose....i used rsdlite to go back to .211, factory reset, root, then followed op directions and worked.try rsdlite see if that does anything different.

Thanks for another possible way out or in....will give this a try.

For those who want to make 'unauthorized' changes to this, note that Hashcode is going to be making a flashable ROM out of this OTA. The idea is to flash the ROM in to slot1, and then make changes with THAT, rather than with stock - and potentially brick the phone. Practice safe flashing... :)

Same deal here, but I tried 1.82 and the encryption error went away...now I just get the bootlogo. My battery is charging and then I will try again. I was in the process of using the unbrick utility and then battery fail... RSD'ing to .211 fastboot did not work, error'd out. Wish I could use clockwork on JB for a number of reasons not needed for this thread.

Will you be releasing a tool in the near future for JB like the 1.82 I have been using on ICS? I moved on to JB following your direction successfully but have since soft bricked my phone and have no way to factory reset.

Matt is the ultimate authority on this, but I believe that we lack the necessary .xml files to do this. The JB "leak" can only be installed as an upgrade to .211. It cannot be used to set a phone back to stock.

I assume this is a silly question, but did you make a backup of the stock rom before you changed this? If so, have you tried to restore the backup?

Are there any issues with Exchange email or calendar in the leaked JB OTA? I saw one person in another thread mention difficulty, but people have said little about it here.

Thanks!

I did the same thing.. Trying to avoid losing data... When you did the unbrick did you lose all your data?

it did not erase my sdcard, but I did have to set the phone up again as if it was brand new. It is running buttery smooth, just needs root and a recovery.

That sounds like a "factory wipe." That doesn't erase the sdcard, just the apps and settings in the phone itself.

I'm fixed! I read your post and decided to give this a try. I ran Matt's 1.82 Step 1. That removed the encryption data error and put the phone into a bootloop, but it did put whatever was needed onto the phone from ICS to run the upgrade to JB. So, my phone was hard to see rebooting it was just alternating between motorola logo and black screen. I experimented with when to press power and two volumes to get to the stock recovery menu and it took me a few tries but I finally got there. Once there I chose "apply upgrade from external source" because I still had the JB upgrade on my SD Card. It ran the upgrade and I am back! I'm now on JB 4.1.2 only I am now no longer rooted. If you still have your upgrade on your sd this would probably do the same for you.

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

you can copy and paste them into the folder that contains the utility (or the "files" folder if using the Linux Mac Utility) then ru-run the utility? if you re-reun the utility with these then you will automatically have the current binaries...... i should have suggested that last night but i think my brain was dead LOL.... i will be updating the Linux Mac utility(at least) with these today so everone will have them :)

Figures, now that I sit down to do it Dev-Host is down :-/

Well... for those rooted... they should know that an upgrade means loss of root.
(As for myself... I only have myself to blame. I installed. Had root. Had tether hack working. Then I went too far and somehow screwed upland had to re-ibstall. With a non-bootable .211... I had to reinstall the update and lost root. :-(

It's OK... now debating upgrade to Maxx HD or to Note 2.
