If you have successfully updated to JellyBean, there is no going back to ICS .211

So I've had Jelly Bean installed now without a single problem so far. I'm a noob...so I had no choice but to follow Matt's directions to a 'T' and everything worked out perfectly. Prior to Jelly bean, I had SS 3.05 installed and had 3 different custom ROMs running on my RAZR. I am happy to say that my rooted phone stayed intact after the JB update and that was all thanks to Matt. His directions were not difficult to follow at all. Just make sure you pay attention to detail when going through the process or you might end up missing something...resulting in an unrooted phone. Don't try to outwit or outsmart what Matt has put into place here. It works as is.

As far as the JB build being released by mistake...I guess we'll never know. it's so hard to tell what happened here with Moto and Verizon. I wanna say someone pushed a button on accident, but at the same time, I feel like it was partially intentional. I can honestly say that none of the JB bugs you experience on the custom ROMs don't exist. I mean, the camera flash works, I can send MMS files, and the screen rotation works without a hitch. Another big thing is the fact that when you go into Google Now...you get the card that says 'an update is available'. In the custom ROMs, when you hit the link to the play store...you would get a message saying that the software wasn't compatible with your device....well....NOT THIS TIME...the google now update from the play store worked perfectly. I'm happy that I upgraded to JB and I'm even more excited for the JB base to be made available to all the talented devs that will deliver our JB custom ROMs soon. :)

Hmm ... I have seen some problems in updating the firmware. When installing from sdcard to verify the firmware error occurs.
Here's the log, word for word:

- Install / sdcard ...
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Instalation aborted.

I did all the instructions step by step:
1. Restored stock 6.16.211 with Razr Utility 1.82
2. With it was root.
3. Kept root using OTA Rootkeeper
4. Threw an update on the card, and then loaded into the recovery and installation getting the error.

I would be grateful for your help.

ok, I am getting the status 7 error. What do I do? I have read all pages but I am confused...

I did a complete wipe and fastboot using option 1 and followed all Matt's directions....

Successfully updated!! :D

Also I can confirm that the sqlite mobile hotspot hack works perfectly

One interesting thing I noticed: if you go to language options the keyboards it comes with are AOSP and Motorola Chineese. I wonder why they didn't use the standard Motorola Input keyboard they usually have....

You guys need to wipe data/factory reset first and format your memory card and put the update on the root of your SD. It will work flawlessly after that.

Alright so I am running safestrap I have it turned off right now and I am on my basic kernel .211 Now in the directions it says I have to do option 1. Since my kernel is .211 do I have to wipe and fresh install of ICS or can it stay as it? I am thinking this is why I am having a sideloader problem when unzipping the update.

You have to be bone stock, no safestrap at all. Option 1 fresh .211.

I got either a really bad flash or something that made it so I couldn't load new roms on the safe side (kept saying "No OS" when I tried) and the non-safe would only bootloop. I fastbooted back to stock and flashed the update. I miss some of the custom roms, but since downloading the update it's been so fast and everything working perfectly, that I don't mind not being rooted.

I'm always amazed when people don't follow Matt's great instructions and then want to know why they have a problem.

Matt provides the Razr Utility, he provides installation instructions...

He's even trying to help folks with problems on Christmas day for goodness sake.

Don't take shortcuts!
