Has anyone tried the latest update? I've been on RC2 for awhile which worked absolutely stunning for two weeksish but now its getting sluggish and have had black screen of deaths.

I know a lot of ppl have kept going back to 5/17 build but i was wondering if anyone has tried 5/24 or 5/25. Might bite the bullet and try 5/25 tonight.

Also interesting note, I lost gps on RC2.after running on it for about a week. It's sad cuz i did the whole FXZ'd to fix my gps previously =/ Oh well. The pros and cons of Nightlies eh? lol

i'm starting to notice this on the RC1 also. anyone know the reason why the rom starts getting sluggish and force closes after awhile? it was running fast and great from a fresh install. now apps starts with a delay and noticing that it freezes up pretty often now. i tried wiping cache/dalvik and fixing permission but no noticeable differences.

Any background processes that could be taking most of the threads in your CPU? Android in general has the problem of running too many background operations, it simply doesn't have much of a limiter for what is running. Try downloading a task cleaner program and have it delete unimportant background task(i.e unused messengers app, Facebook, maybe lightflow) when you shut off your screen. That should work. Sure, many programs will repopulate the background, but it should regulate what happens in the long term.

Rather than using a task cleaner app, why not just go to settings-> developer options-> background process limit and set it to 4. Granted you have to do it after every reboot, but it does keep roms from slowing down.

That works too. The concept is there however. You need to limit background task. I feel like an iOS dude saying that, because that system doesn't allow much of any background task to operate. For most apps you need to be in the foreground for things like downloads to happen. It does keep the OS buttery smooth, at the same time it prevents true multitasking.

I too lost GPS on RC2. Tried flashing other roms and still haven't been able to get gps back. I think I read possible solutions on past pages, but for whatever reason am unable to get any results using the forum search. Do you happen to know what the possible solutions were for fixing gps? Seems like there were other things to try before going the fxz route.

I have tried every solution of fixing GPS. Some of these solutions work, but the 100% working solution is FXZ-ing.

You can try them out by fixing permissions,
Uninstalling maps, Use the app GPS Status, then reinstall.
Factory Reset and clean wipe.
i forget the rest.

I've been following the forum since the beginning and GPS really is a hit or miss for people and as much as it sucks, FXZing fixes it. It's just the nature of nightlies. There are gonna be bugs.

That's what I was afraid to hear. It seems like flashing a new rom that doesn't have gps issues should fix it.

Doesn't make sense that it would kill gps on the safe side too.

Oh well, guess I get to try out the Bionic jb root method finally.

So interesting enough... I just hopped on 5/27 build. As I said before, I lost GPS at one point using RC2. But on the 5/27 build: It now locks GPS for about 5 minutes, then will lose its connection, but then 30 secs later it will connect back. And it keeps looping. So I got GPS back to working 80% of the time updating to 5/27.

Also updating 5/27 removed the sluggishness from the RC2. However most of the nightlies always feel fast as soon as you flash them. I'm sure 5/27 will get slower overtime like RC2 & it's predecessors. But for now, it seems very fast and stable. I recommend those who have been on RC2 to hit up the 5/27 build

I froze the calendar app, but not calendar storage, then installed the calendar app from the play store and it works fine.

Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk 2

Alas. I was screwing around with the calendar app and Factory data reset through safestrap and I somehow lost root on my Stock OTA JB ROM. Voodoo and SU can't get it and I no longer have working TiBu.

Weird.

I have safestrap and can boot into still rooted Slot 1 with CM10.1 where everything working perfectly. My Stock OTA JB ROM however is no longer rooted and is without Calendar. Calendar app is there it just will not sync with my google acct. (Despite Re installing calendar, reinstalling google account into phone and the factory data reset. Interesting that my Calendar app is not even there after the factory data reset through safestrap.) I had to go find it on the playstore.

Since I lost the calendar app functionality the only thing I use the Stock JB OTA ROM for is the sweet docking modes. If I'm able to re root - maybe I should try to freeze calendar storage and activate an old calendar storage from TIBU saves I've done. :( Tried this before tho with no luck. I wonder if calendar storage from CM10.1 reactivated into my OTA JB ROM through TIBu would fix it. Anybody?

Wish I could reRoot the Stock ROM - can anybody advise simplest method?

Seems weird. I don't know how safe strap could work if you weren't rooted on stock.

Yeah. Factory Data reset through safestrap made me lose root but only on the Stock ROM. Safestrap still worked beautifully and could still easily jump into my other ROM.

I was just able to regain root :)using :

I'll give this a try later today. Would be happy to have gps back without having to fxz. Will have to wait until Saturday at the soonest to be able to do that.

Okay one bug i'm noticing in 5/27 build is USB mass storage is really buggy. Most of the time, it won't allow files to be dragged onto my SD-ext card. And if it does start the transfer process, it goes very slow (like ~500 Kbps) and then fails just before complete transfer. It will show the file copied in the SD folder but when I tried flashing it, it failed. So its a ghost file per say.

The only way i've been able to transfer files has been through Safestrap and mounting UMS with 10 MB/s transfer. So its a bug that can be worked around ish.

I think the only way I'll be able to succeed here is to replace the OTA JB APKs (I think I may have corrupted it by putting in the APKs for calendar using Tibu).

Calendar, Calendar Storage and Calendar Sync. Does anyone know how I could get these? I'll erase the mess of these 3 I have using TIBU and replace if anyone has them or knows where to get 'em. Thanks!

Looks like RC3 is released today. Downloading it now and gonna hop on board to see whats up. Been getting great results with 5/27 build though so we'll see how this plays out.

Tried the 5/27 build and still didn't get GPS back. Please let me know if RC3 improves things. Thanks!

I know it's been said a lot on here, but wiping dalvic cache, cache, and fixing permissions has always brought my GPS back.

An FXZ for something like that seems super excessive.

I've wiped cache, dalvic, fixed permissions, reset using gps status, redownloaded data, and cleared data/cache manually from gps services or something like that and still have no gps on slot one or stock. Guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones.

I went through it all as well. Spent days trying to get it to work. In the end fxz was the only thing that worked. I'm still on 246. It's not a big deal to do it. Took me 30 max.

RC3 is doing quite well for me so far, been about 15 hours. When i first loaded it, I'd get no caller id-answer screen when someone called me, just a blank screen with no sound, buzzing away, with the phone icon up in the top left.

Did a fix permissions in TWRP (first time I've had to do that) and now things are rocking along great!

I should have a signature here...somewhere.
