I have lost 4g after flashing CodeKernel on PAC and all 3.0.8 cm10.1 nightlies so far. Other people haven't and ByteCode said it's not the kernel causing the issue, so i'm guessing you and I are doing something wrong :(

Pretty sure its still kexec. That's why it doesn't matter if you're on ICS still or took the jb ota. They are just tweeking the 3.08 kernel. Bytecode's is based of off 3.08 as well I believe.

No the KEXEC Kernel if I'm not mistaken was on the 3.0.31 kernel, that was prior to 4/22 in which I believe most if not all the KEXEC kernels were converted to the normal 3.08 kernel. That was done I believe once Dan repurposed his Motoshare exploit (Motoshare 2) for the new Bionic JB .22 OTA.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Eric

I do wish they would just pop on the thread here when they post a new nightly and just mention what they worked on... like 4g stability or fixed resetting ringtone or whatever, nothing major, just hey tweaked this check it out ya know.

If you tap on the file name in system settings /about phone/cyanogenmod updates the changelog pops up.

I don't know what the difference is, but I haven't downloaded from sts-dev since get.cm and cmupdater became available. Aokp, cm, pacman, and a couple others whose names escape me right now (maybe liquid) are all kexec.

They can use any kernel they want in kexec. That is just the way the ROM bypasses the native kernel and uses what's included in the ROM. If it wasn't still kexec you wouldn't be able to use it on either jb or ics. That's the beauty of it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I had to learn as well:

A custom Kernel can be based on any linux kernel. In the case of CM10.1, the original Kernel was based on 3.0.8. The first KEXEC was based on 3.0.31 which IIRC was on the RAZR. Once the official Moto JB update was released using Kernel 3.0.8, the devs reverted back to 3.0.8 with their tweaks added. In case you hadn't been using this ROM since the beginning, you may not have followed it all along with the 50 pages of comments/discussion on this thread and the many pages on the CM10 thread.

Others are developing ROMS and/or Kernels that are based on 3.0.8 as well with some tweaks. One example is Bytecode's Kernel which has a lot of options for governors, I/O schedulers, overclocking, etc.

Jump over to the thread for Bytecode's Kernel and go to the link to the source code. At the bottom of the linked page there is an explanation of the kernel evolution. Or you can Google it like I did!

I had 4G on the 4/29 build but after a few hours, everything became laggy and slow. I reverted back to the 4/26 build which seems to maintain fluidity and smoothness.
