Initial install you need GApps, assuming you're doing the nightlies. After you've installed GApps, you can dirty flash in updates.and GApps stay put.

For the last few days I haven't been able to get 4g... just 3g
anyone have any suggestions? maybe just a full wipe?
I've been dirty flashing every nightly

Hmmm. I DO get 4G but more often than not it reverts to 3G quite often. However, my 4G coverage is god awful here usually but I do notice another ROM like WizzedBean CN4 more often than not locks into 4G more often and firmly. Could be coincidental, time of day, etc. Again, VZW 4G coverage is generally weak in the Bradley Int'l Airport areas of Windsor Locks, etc (wide swath) in CT, while AT&T is surprisingly strong!

to freeze or remove the stock camera just use the titanium backup app
to replace the stock app move a camera APK file to the system/app folder rename it to whatever the stock file name was then install and reboot (works when I replace my stock messaging app)

Somebody said a few pages back that not every nightly has changes or something new.
So why have nightlies?

Not sure what kind of answer you are looking for here... Usually if a new build is released there are some changes. These changes are usually not noticeable to the average users. Also note the term "nighty" Is a generic term meaning a quicker release cycle than you average rom updates. It does not necessarily mean it will be released every night.

when i do that will it be the default camera to open now for other applications like instagram or snapchat? or when i just push the camera app button?

Good enough answer for me. I just started using this ROM and I had noticed that it had a new nightly every day since I started. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't just flashing the same thing only with a different date.
Thanks

I don't have time to go into too much detail but kexec allows us to install custom kernels.

What it does is loads the stock kernel then hijacks it and loads the custom kernel on top of it. Basically confusing the locked part of our phone into believing that the correct files are loaded.

Hope that helps you guys understand at least the idea of it :-)

MY newb question on this is the following: I know Hash has said that at some point all future builds will be kexec based. How does that play with official CM status. At that point, will they become two different builds with different development?

Yes, for now they are completely seperate. There is a link about a page or so back to HC's & DH's blog on Droid Hive where the KEXEC builds are posted. They are also under HC's 10.1 builds in goo.im.

My question is more of this. Once Kexec is "fixed" will the builds on get.cm be kexec based or stock kernel?

Saw that dhacker posted a new 3/12 Kexec was posted. Download and flashed it to rom slot 1. It seemed to flash fine but it doesn't boot for me. Will try again later.

I've grabbed the latest nightlies for the past several days (since thread title/OP indicated it was fixed) and am still not having any luck with the speakerphone mic. I can't be the only one? Can anyone confirm it actually works for them?
