I just stumbled on a cool little thing.
As you know, Google Maps has an offline functionality which lets you store offline maps for rather 'little' square regions.
What always annoyed me is that the squares you could chose were always rather small. If you zoomed out, you got a message saying something like "Area too large. Please zoom in".
Well, I found a way to circumvent that limitation :-)
Believe it or not, when having Google Maps in horizontal/landscape mode, the selectable area is MUCH larger than in portrait/vertical mode. An area which couldn't be stored in portrait/vertical, is accepted in horizontal/landscape mode.
That way, I managed to store a singe offline map, covering not the usual 10x10km square (that's what it is for us in germany :ß), but an almost 100x100km map ...Instead of about 4mb in size, the newly stored map has 86mb :-)
It seems this functionality has been introduced silently somewhere in November ? Give it a try :-)
A little change in Google Maps Offline functionality :-)
