So does the update not have to be signed in the same way?

It is signed. I sign everything. It wouldn't work if it were not signed. What I am saying is.. It won't work. lol You will have NO SystemUI, No Status bar, No Settings, and no Camera. if you flash them together. Its just the way it is. Any apps that are tied into anything Moto break to a certain point when modified xml's are invovled.

Same reason why you can't flash Themes and Mods in the same session of CWR.

Sorry if all my questions are annoying, I'm just trying to pick your brain since you clearly know what's up
Thank you for answering all my questions be the way!

I guess what I don't understand is why it is the the phone will accept the sig of the rom and the sig of the update but not both together. But I guess its all tied into the whole hacking appart the apks. I didn't realize until you said something that the xmls came into play

It's nothing to do with the verification sig clockwork uses. The OS has signed APK's, All the Google Apps are signed with a signature, the Moto Apps and Framework are signed with specific keys also. If you have ever flashed a ROM and say for example a certain app wasn't showing up but you knew it was in there. That is why. :)

So is it because the bootloader is locked and you have to trick the phone its all legit motor software?

I guess I still don't get why if settings.apk for example is signed such that it works in the rom, why would it be different if it were changed in the update such that it can't be flashed at the same time?

Home Screen button issue, folks responded to me that it was because of reloading backups of APKS. I wiped data/factoryreset, wiped cache, mounts formatted system and wiped dalvik. Installed ver 1.0 again and setup phone. Home screen no issues, did not load any APKs back on phone. Rebooted phone wiped cache and wiped dalvik and installed update 1.1. Lost home screen button at this point. With my experiences running all of DroidTh3ory's previous Roms, I would back up his suspicions that there may be a bug in the go launcher. I have never used that launcher before and am of fan of ADW.

Can anyone confirm whether smart actions is a motor blur feature? I am able to use it and it works as its supposed to, but it will not let me add either automatically or manually a set location. Other than that, everything works fine and I love this rom (extreme debloated)

I had the same issues as you... I never found a way to keep my home button working... I even tried sbfing, taking ota, rooting, installing safe strap or bootstrap (tried it each way) wiping everything... it would run fine for maybe 1 or 2 hours then crash... didn't even install titanium backup, let alone restore any app whatsoever... even tried installing a different launcher... still always left me without home button or lock screen... for now I had to switch back to infex... I was sbfing my phone way too much trying to get this rom working for me

Just a random thought... I believe smart actions uses social location to assess its location... I don't remember looking when I ran this rom, but it is entirely possible that DT removed social locations because it is blur... this is a deblurred rom after all :D

i hope this isn't against your "add stuff to the extreme version" message, it's just a question on how to modify it myself. to access the smart dock (the hdmi dock) would i just copy and paste the apk's to one of the battery mods and it's just as simple as that? i read through and saw you said for the email service to add them in a battery mod so would it be the same for smart dock? or does smart dock require more blur that has already been removed? if i can just move the apk's over to the battery mod, which apk's are part of the smart dock application? i saw a few things that seemed related but i didn't want to screw anything up too bad...loving your extreme version, down with blur! :)

safestrap is no longer necessary//recommended. just use nitro's bootstrap from now on since fastboot files are out

I still prefer it just if I flash or tweak something and I don't have a computer on the spot.

Home key button isn't working for me. Haven't had my Razr for 12 hours yet and it's already rooted and flashed with your ROM. I'm liking it so far and I too am having home key issues as well as audio. Home key, my guess would be another Launcher from a custom ROM... and I get no audio notification from text messages. Other than that and the wacky added a google account it's running great. Any chances of a new kernal to OC/UC?

And what's wrong with safestrap?

Nothing is wrong with it. It was used because we didn't have an SBF. But since we now have Fast boot files it is no longer necessary to keep safestrap.

nothing is *wrong* with safestrap, it's just not necessary anymore since the fastboot files are out to save us from a bootloop//other inevitable problems with flashing
