I'm currently attempting to create a theme or two for the IcarusHD ROM. Having no real idea of what I am doing, I am first making some new dialer icons and am hoping to extend this to be a complete theme. I am slowly delving into the folders, trying to get a grasp on where things are.Of course my XML understanding is zero (no clue what I would have to change and what XML controls what) and my Photoshop skills are only slightly above that...this is going to be a lot of trial and error. So..here are the icons I have already made ....
(NOTE 1...The phonebooth icons were based on a blank .PNG that was created by Black Beard Blanc over at XDA.. NOTE 2, there are a couple of icons that I have used the ideas from the VENOM theme for Eclipse that were created by dubsx, but have been tweaked by me in Photoshop to better suit the overall theme(s).

Took a chance and flashed what I have completed to my daily Icarus install...after I corrected a umm, yeah...when copying file names, make sure you are copying the correct one!

I couldnt get it to work until I read the step by step tutorials either. haha But now I love it.

Try out apk tool, its also an excellent tool for image editingI tried it after seeing your link the other day...can't figure it out or it just hates me! I'm a button pusher and still couldn't get it working

I'm doing all of this on a POS laptop because it's easier for me to see edits and stuff vs my computer that is across the living room connected to my TV..and it sucks ! It's a pain to get any tools to work.. But of course I haven't read the instructions either

I have spent more time trying to figure out why certain things aren't showing up and things that shouldn't be showing up are than it is taking me to make the friggen PNG's!
This is what I have made so far..and all of these have been replaced in the Contacts and Phone .apks...but at least 5 or so refuse to show up...

Going great brother but going to have to get someone more knowledgeable than me to find out where to change that call button at. Could be in a xml file. I would hit up t3 or dubsx and see if they know

Let me preface this by saying...It's a damned good thing I made a backup 3rd slot "Test" of Icarus,because I would be in a world of bootloop right now!
I finally got APK-Multi-Tool running...but am hitting a wall with it. I have it setup,folders were built and I dropped 3 apk's in and had it decompile them. I got an error about it saying I didn't have a framework file,even though I had it install it,but no biggie because the files were opened and ready for editing,including the XMLs. Found a nice little transparent background trick in the Framework.apk..Value folder and changed the values. Copied over all of my PNG's, edited 2 other XML files and went back to compile those 3 so I can finally stop having to flash the ROM every time I changed something.No dice. Kept erroring on recompiling so I decided to have it zip them,unsigned since they were system apps. Loaded them on my SD card then went into SS to flash. Fail. OK, I'll move them to system,change permissions,then install. FAIL. OK,let's try something different. Just copy over the apk files I edited into the Icarus zip then go into SS,flash and wipe caches....BOOTLOOP.
So,I went back to doing them as I have been but noticed the Framework.apk didn't have those same "Values" folders I saw when everything was decompiled. Damn. So,here I am with the majority of changes finally showing up..but since I screwed everything up earlier,these are on my backup Icarus

I'm very slowly getting there....considering up till this week the most I ever did was flash some ROMs and make a custom wallpaper/a few icons and some widgets!

I have ran into this issue.... google ICS apk tool. There is a new version out that handles the classes.dex or whatever file it is and will successfully decompile and recompile the apks. I had to put the new apktool.jar file in my VTS so it would recompile my apps also...

With the AWESOME help from T3T3Droid...I finally have the majority of Contacts.apk , Phone .apk and a few in the Settings .apk working..and into flashable .zips! I still have a few stragglers that need to be found and changed and that damned end call button refuses to change (only changed one color in Color.xml) but....

I know I'm posting a crap load of images.. But this is my first time doing this and I don't have a lot of time to mess with this stuff so when I make something work , I get a little giddy.
Thanks to WIDOWMAKER, that red box over the end call button is gone. I am pretty much as done as my limited skills will allow with the contacts and phone. Apks.. and have a few things in settings to finish and (only changed a couple of PNGs in framework)...probably get the icons done for the basic apps..then I'm gonna send it to T3T3 to check it out.
