If bootloader locked then you're SOL.

If I flash it directly from RSD Lite in fastboot mode, will it remove everything and do a clean install?

Wanted to put in my thanks. Used this to update without erasing everything (I'd futzed with a lot under the hood, so OTA wasn't installing). Worked perfectly. CWM to get root no prob. Now the phone is working better than ever (though the battery is still not as long-lasting as pre-KK).
Huge thanks to Sam who has, again, made my life easier and better.

Question... I am unlocked thanks to the great work you guys have done, but I heard about carriers being required to to unlock phones when some conditions are met. If true, then can we simply contact Verizon (example) and tell them to comply and unlock our phones...?

You're talking about 2 different types of unlock. However, Sam is right.

There are methods to SIM unlock for some phones but it will take a good bit of research. My XT926 is SIM unlocked for T-Mobile or AT&T should I choose to use them which I will when my Verizon contract is up, but it took a good bit of research. You have to be careful when doing it or you will brick your phone.

Ok - So I promise I read the instructions about 6 times. Downloaded the proper FXZ per the link you listed. It gets to step 15/17 flash system img and just stays there. No error, but its been more than 5 minutes and it is still there. What should I do?
Droid Razr HD Maxx- Unlocked and rooted. Simply need to unroot to stock.
Any help is appreciated. Am sure I am missing something simple
Alright- took almost 10 minutes but finished the 17 steps. For some reason RSD still shows it rebooting, but its not. Is it safe to unplug the USB ?

Yes. It still amazes me when people think it "hangs" sending a 1 gig file over a usb connection to a device. Like somehow that should take a minute or two.

Yeah- for some reason I feel like me memory remembers it going quicker, and then I start to freak out thinking I did not something wrong. It is not so much that I am impatient, its just every moment until its done, I am worried I am bricking my phone or something strange will happen I can't fix easily. It ended up working perfectly- though RSD never said finished- it just stayed in reboot mode. Upgraded to the OTA- so the IT guys at work will be happy. Thanks again for your help and guidance. Think the new phone is going to be the Moto X, so it will be interesting to see the differences.

Much appreciated for the new FXZ file! Saved me from a bricked phone after doing the OTA update then going to CFW. Had issues and tried to flash with the previous FXZ but failed due to security errors.
