A status 7 error in whatever.apk means your system is failing checks. Just faatboot back and start over , take the first OTA etc etc

Tapped from my XT926, XT913 or SCH-i535.

If I hadn't had fastboot issues, I am sure your xml file would have worked lol.

No issues here. Now that I had some time.

Did the OTA update, rooted and voodo, flashed the leak then restored root with no issues.

I'm a happy camper now thanks to Droidrzr and all the fine folks here.

That's the Keep Data XML script. Unzip it into the directory that you extracted the FXZ to and use it instead of the original XML file. It should, hopefully, in theory, keep your data. But what do I know. :D

Basically I fastbooted back to stock, ran the 702 update I think it is, rooted the device, updated the SU binary, made SU backup, temp unroot, flash JB update, and restored my su backup.

Edit: While root call blocker does get root priveledges, it doesn't seem to work with Motos JB :(

Thanks for posting this, I walked through the process and the key difference was updating the SU binary before using OTA rootkeeper to backup and temp unroot.

So to summarize the process:
1. You are stock with the non-JB verizon pushed update (6MB) applied (Settings > About Phone > System update tells you your device is up to date)
2. You root (or are already rooted)
3. You go into the Superuser app, swipe to the left the info tab (if you don't see this, the make sure you have the latest superuse update from the app store)
4. Tap on the 3rd line (su binary tap to check for updates)
5. Update the binaries to the latest
6. Open OTA Vodoo RootKeeper and Protect Root (or delete and create a new backup if you have already used the app to backup)
7. Temp unroot in OTA Vodoo RootKeeper
8. Power off the device
9. Power + volume up, then press volume up and down simultaneously when you see the android.
10. Volume down until recovery is highlighted, then volume up to select recovery
11. Choose install update from external sd card
12. Select file to update
13. After boot, restore root using OTA Vodoo RootKeeper
14. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to confirm you have root

Root and flashing back to stock can be done using Matt's utility (thanks Matt!)

I think this should work for everyone having issues, let me know if you are able to get JB root using these instructions.

Silly question.... on my stock RAZR MAXX HD I don't have a folder called "external1" so I created it on my SD card. Does the folder name matter? Is it ok if both files are on the root of the SD card? Thanks in advance for the help.

chrisc2u glad you got root working :) I am guessing the su binary that is distributed with the ICS exploit isn't compatible with Jelly Bean.

The phone has a partition for storing data that is recognized as sdcard and your sdcard is recognized as sdcard-ext or external that is all

I would recommend fastbooting back to stock and follow the steps from chrisc2u in post #110.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction STiK. That has me wondering... If we update the Superuser.apk (and binary files if not included in the app) in the current root method, it should/could root the JB leak?

Matt, or other Devs, could you comment or take a look? I am happy to play, but not sure what files would need to be updated besides Superuser.apk

I'll second that. Matt's utility works fine for going back to ICS and starting over. Following post 110 you should have no issues.

It's a thought. Try updating the su binary and the superuser.apk in the current root exploit and see if that works. Somehow, though, I suspect they closed the moto2go exploit in JB.

Ok, I've got the app, can I just copy my SU from \system\bin?
