To get to AP fast boot:
without the phone plugged into the USB, hold volume up, volume down, and power to get to the selection screen
volume down to highlight AP fast boot
volume up to select AP fast boot (in this menu. volume up is enter key)
you should now see the AP fast boot screen
now plug into USB, there should be a line on the screen that confirms this.
for the recovery mode (you may need this, I did when I was rooting)
follow the boot menu steps above for the recovery option
when the android mascot with the case opened appears, I pressed both volume buttons to bring up the recovery menu
in this menus, the power button is the enter key, go figure
hope this helps. and if someone else posts something different, listen to them. I only just did this, so I'm still a noob as well haha.

The phone is on the AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) screen, when I run DROID_RAZR_HD_Utility I press 1, ENTER, ENTER, and then I get <waiting for device> and it doesn't do anything.
I've updated my Motorolla drivers on my PC. I just downloaded and confirmed all my pictures from my phone, so I'm fairly confident in the USB cable/sockets. I've tried different orderings of Fastboot/plug in cable/run program on PC.
The AP Fastboot screen reads:
_____________________________
Device is LOCKED, Status Code: 0
Battery OK (I was at 92%)
Connect USB
Data Cable
Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected
_____________________________
How do I proceed?
Thank you very much

Try a different USB port and see if it runs. If not post back and we will do some process of elimination.

Different port, same problem.
The droid is in Fastboot, I can see it from my computer (i.e. Computer\DROID RAZR HD\Internal storage) and I can browse it's data, so I'm fairly certain the connection is working.

Do you have USB debugging enabled? ADB set up on your computer?

USB debugging enabled.
What is ADB? That could be it.
I'm trying to download version 1 and version 1.1 from , to see if one works.

Read up a few posts, that's the same problem I had. tmyinc pointed me in the right direction. I had to manually update both to 0.7.2 and 9.1.41, but it works. the link is below

When you power down then boot up into bootloader are you scrolling down to ap fastboot then selecting it with the volume up button?

OK, rebooting my PC (again) seems to have fixed the problem.
For those that may have this issue, one difference in my AP Flashboot screen AFTER I rebooted my PC was initially it said:
_____________________________
Device is LOCKED, Status Code: 0
Battery OK (I was at 92%)
Connect USB
Data Cable
Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected
_____________________________
But after a reboot underneath "Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected" it says "usb connected"
No idea why. My guess is that (pre-PC-reboot) the PC can see the phone (since I can browse it's data) but the phone, for whatever reason, cannot see the PC.

Now I'm trying to get back to Jellybean. When I go to Settings/About phone and click System updates, it comes up with Update available (a software update 0,7.2.en.US (6.0 MB) is available), but then it comes up with a Dialog box that says
"Info | An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later. | OK"
I've tried power cycling the phone. I've unplugged it from the computer and back in again. I even tried running steps 1 and 2 (reverting back to ICS, rooting again), in hopes that a wipe would fix things, but perhaps fortuitously, nothing happened.
Perhaps I need to manually install Jellybean (like snowman, above). I got the "Motorola Services has stopped" message once, when I went to Settings/About phone/System Updates and let the 30 second timer time out.
Where might I find the Jellybean binaries, or should I take different steps?
Thank you.

I'm not sure about the motorola services error message, but the link to download the updates you need are in the quote above, along with instructions on how to manually update.

will this work on droid 4 xt894
No it won't. You need specific files for your device. I don't have time to look at the moment but Google rsd lite and droid 4 sbf files. If you have trouble pm me and I will look when I can.

this is my prob
tryin to flash stock rom
got no rom on my stock side and eclipse rom on rom 1
i got safestrap version 3.04 installed
was told to do this
1 go into safestrap and select stock and boot so it says no os like b4
2 remove safestrap in adb How to manually remove Safestrap (via ADB) | Hash-of-Codes get adb in this pack and rt click and press shift to get a command prompt in that folder
3 flash sbf in fastboot mode using rsd (to enter fastboot when the phone is off, hold down power and both vol keys, when menu appears use vol- to scroll and vol+ to select) sbf file to flash
ok i have abd installed how do u get Commands to be entered as su (should show “#” command prompt):
in cmd
abd sees my phone when in safestrape at reboot option (are u sure u want to reboot no os installed),if i boot into stockwith no os abd doesent see phone if i enter recovery
it says its connected but
cmd doesent have it listed as devices
