If you just run the Razr Utility 1.82 to root the phone, could you just leave it like that? Or installing a ROM required after doing so?

I am a noob. I rooted and installed the 215 leak before finding your post. Couple of questions...

Do I have to go back to 211 before running ss3 and flashing a new ROM?

For the "storage fix," is deleting the internal and external storage the same as formating?

So I followed all the instructions for updating to JB...

Using 1.82 utility:
Fastbooted back to 2.11
Rooted (updated su binaries)
Installed Voodoos OTA Root Keeper (checked market for update)
Protected and restored root twice and left it restored
Booted into Moto Recovery
Chose to apply update from ext. sd
Chose Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip

But i keep getting the same error

assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/logwrapp
er","f39fcb2d78b9e92e9fbedc6a62a047dc23459416","4a63
fec78956def045b442910a754fa640db8f5a")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/pacage.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted

Please Help! I have no idea what I'm missing here

Thanks!

Just had this same problem. I had installed and enabled SS3.07 BEFORE unrooting as per instructions. I restored root and made sure SS was not enabled (program is OK to be installed - just don't 'enable' safe system). Everything worked out after that.

Ok, didn't think I had to update to ss3.07 before doing anything. I wasn't sure for a while if i had to completely uninstall safestrap first before going back to stock 2.11.
I just installed SS3.07 on my stock side, I haven't changed anything or deleted any preinstalled apps so i should be good. I'll let you know how things go after I get back from shopping with my wife

well i did as you said and i'm still getting the same error, thought it was a bad dl so i I tried re-downloading it but still no success.
When you say SS3.07 enabled, do you mean the safe side? and do i have to delete any of my slot roms to make room on the internal sd? anything I'm missing here? followed the instructions on the main page to install JB and keep getting the same error

Did you have root restored or temp unroot before you applied the update?

Safestrap can be INSTALLED. Safestrap CANNOT be ENABLED (no safe side) - you shouldn't have any other slots/ROMs if you followed instructions (any old ROMs supposedly won't work in JB anyway). You must use TEMP UNROOT (follow instructions to the letter - there currently ISN'T a root method for JB). Then install JB. Again your old rom slots will be useless after upgrade, so just get rid of them.

EDIT: SS3.05 won't work with JB, so you'll want to update it BEFORE you install JB to avoid any problems.

I just went from 214 back to stock 211. After reading the instructions on how to get JB onto my DRM I think I will just wait for the OTA. Significantly less work and less painful I think.

Remember to wipe internal stlrage and wipe your sd card while in stock rom. And yoy need to factory reset your phone after taking the ota update. It will fix the lhone of any problems with restoring root. You need to start fresh.

So the OP says to have root restored before applying the update, same with the main pages instructions. I've been told to follow the OP's instructions, but in the same paragrah and by someone else, I'm told to be temp unrooted. Some have retained root by applying without temp unroot and some have regained root by being temp unrooted. Which is it? Am i able to use the restore root tool after updating if i didn't have root restored prior? Or do you have to protect root and lose it during the update to be able to restore it through the utility? Could i use the restore root utility if i lost root whether i was temp unroot or restored (protected)

If you guys would just read the guide it explains what to do. I dont write this stuff for you to jump the gun on. You need to have root RESTORED. ahen rebooting into recovery and applying the jb ota. If you didnt have ROOT RESTORED sorry. Youre unrooted. And you havs nobody to blame but yourself. If you cant follow directions you dont need to be flashing stuff to your device because youre going to mess somdthing up. If you didnt factkry reset your phone after the fastbootback to ics youre going to get sideload errors. If you didnt wipe internal stodage and format your sd card, youre going to get sideload and other errors. Its extremely simple to fix these problems before they even occur. Its really not that hard. But if you cant read instructions dont do it. Im not trying to be rude with anyone but too many people are jumping the gun on the ota and if they cant read like 7 simsple instructions then its not for them/you and stick to ics.

What does formatting my external SD have to do with anything, and is it just wiping internal, or formatting. I have a spare external would that work instead of formatting my main card?
