Are you using SQLite Editor or a different application?

For using the stock Mobile Hotspot, here is a quick walk-thru using some free sql apps if you want to avoid paying for SQLite Manager.
As always, all standard caveats apply - ie perform at your own risk. ROOT IS REQUIRED!
Note: If you make an error while in aSQLiteManager don't panic, just back out and when prompted to save tap NO, then start over.
1 Launch your stock Mobile Hotspot app to ensure a db entry is created. It will not work and give a msg stating to call cust svc, thats fine.
2 Back out and download both aShell and aSQLiteManager by ANDSEN in play store for free
3 Launch aShell and agree to terms, etc.
4 Make sure you enable root access by checking box in upper left corner that says "root"
5 Tap "file explorer" and navigate to /data/data and select "com.motorola.android.providers.settings"
6 Select "database"
7 Select "settings.db" !!!BE PATIENT!!, it will take a momement to create a temp file and give you a response
8 Tap complete action using either reference to aSQLite
9 Tap open database with aSQLiteManager
10 Tap settings
11 Tap data
12 Tap pgdn until you see “entitlement_check” (mine was row 67)
13 Tap "edit" on row 67, then change "value" from the default of 1, to 0
14 Tap OK
15 Reboot
Now you should be able to use VZW Mobile Hotspot with no problems. I've connected with various devices and all behaves normally.

Its there another app you cash use that you don't have to pay for?
I have a rooted Razr Hd 4.1.2. I have been using WIFI Tether version 3.3-Pre 1. This works great, I needed to change the channel to option number 2.
The Profile to Generic ICS/ JB ( Wlan0)---Setup to AUTO Wortks the best-WIFI Driver reload must be checked. Also make sure MSS Clamping & Routing Fix are checked also.
Works GREAT. No issues This APP is a free download. Good Luck..

I was able to apply the hack to the stock Verizon hotspot app no problem. Thanks! That said, I'm a little worried about using it as I would assume Verizon will be getting back some information about my usage going through their app. This is just theory, but I think well founded... I used to have a Palm Pre Plus with Mobile Hotspot, and even though it was a free app on that phone, Verizon knew how much data I ran through it each month. I have to assume that the stock droid version will do the same thing since it is their app. So although one is able to hook everything up and have it work, it doesn't mean that Verizon won't know what you are doing since you're running their app. As I said, it's just a theory. I'll be curious to see if people start reporting in a month that Verizon stuck them with a hotspot charge.
In the meantime I've decided to go the more traditional hack route and use WiFi Tether on my Razr HD Maxx. Thanks to dskog57 for the setup information below as it worked perfectly right off the bat. BTW, WiFi Tether is on beta 2 now. So now I have WiFi Tether working as my main solution, and the hacked stock hotspot app as an emergency fallback. I've got it all ! Thanks to all involved for their tips/tricks and hacks!

I just set mine up with WIFI Tether V3.3-pre2.apk and it works great.
I am running JB 4.1.2 Rooted, ROM'd, unlocked and cocked.
I had forgotten about tethering until I realized I use that for my tablet when travelling.
This one works better than apps from the play store and it's free.
Kinda' hard to beat that.
Thanks
