I have a locked bootloader, so I know I can't run "fastboot flash recovery some_custom_recovery.img". But what about the command: "fastboot boot some_custom_recovery.img"?

Will a locked bootloader allow me temporarily boot to a custom recovery, since it's not being flashed permanently?

Phone is a Razr HD XT926 running 4.4.2.

Sorry if its an idiotic question, but I haven't found a definite answer one way or another.

Thanks

if your bootloader is locked you can't use a custom recovery. Even with the bootloader unlocked the 926 doesn't support the fastboot boot recovery command.
