I've read through the whole post and was wondering if this supports the XT1080M Droid Maxx?

I am on the 19.6.3 update and want to downgrade to root (JCase Method) and turn WP (WpNoMo) off.

I am in the same boat as you are.

Now that we have newer tools, I am confused what to use. Previously I have used HoM 2.0 to upgrade my dads XT926 and also to flash FXZ (4.4) on my Droid Maxx XT1080M.

Now, I have to downgrade to 19.5.3 immediately, since the update for 4.4.4 is downloading on my mobile OTA and I want to try rooting before that system update is done.

The instructions on page 1 do not mention anything about downloading the FXZ corresponding to your device (but the HoM 2.3 page does mention that step clearly).

So, I am wondering what is to be downloaded in this case.

I already have this file with me: CFC-fastboot-obake-maxx_verizon-user-4.4-SU2-3-15-release-keys.xml

That is the 4.4 before the April/May patch. Is it safe to use that now? Or will it brick the phone since I applied the April/ May 25 MB update?

Edit: Since Universal option has to be used, so, while downgrading, will I lose data?

4.4.4? There is no 4.4.4 officially. Only 4.4.2. The latest soak test is still 4.4.2 with 4.4.4 security fixes, but it's not 4.4.4. And, unless the soak test has officially been released to users, I highly doubt that is what you are getting. More than likely, you are getting the OTA for the first KK update if you haven't updated to KK yet.

Basically, you have different options to use. I still use HoM for everything. Some prefer RSDLite, so Samuri has provided a way to set up the proper .XML configuration files to flash properly with RSDLite.

Basically, it's just a matter of choice. You can continue to use HoM for everything. Be sure to use the Script Generator to generate the proper scripts for HoM though and then use Universal for just about everything. Use Keep Data for when you are upgrading from an older version of Android to a newer version (such as going from JB to KK). Otherwise, universal is the one to use all the time.

You will not lose data if you use the universal or keep data scripts.  Downgrading on your Maxx is...complicated.  If you're on 19.6.3 you can downgrade to 19.5.3.  If you're on the 21.11.21 build, then it's unlikely that you can downgrade if your bootloader is locked.  I did post the 4.4.4 21.11.21 FXZ's in the ULTRA/MAXX and Mini threads with instructions, btw ;).  That's why I don't list the FXZ's in the OP...I include this thread in the FXZ thread when it's posted so that you have specific instructions to use for that particular FXZ for that particular device.  This thread assumes you already have the FXZ you wanna flash.  In this case you need this FXZ:

That's for 19.5.3.  If you're on 19.6.3, downgrade using the UNIVERSAL option, root, WP off, and upgrade back to 19.6.3 if you wish.  Please note, however, that if you upgrade to 21.11.21 you will retain root but *NOT WP OFF*.  So you will not be able to able to modify system.  If you do get to 21.11.21 and keep root, DO NOT use the FXZ for 21.11.21 or you will permanently lose root.

Ok. So before anyone else replies, I should clarify
1. I am using XT1080M (Droid Maxx)

2. I am using 19.6.3 at the moment and the 4.4.4 update downloaded 75% and then I turned off wifi to prevent it from updating the system

3. I want to root

Now, I do have HoM 2.0 on my system which I last used when I flashed 19.5.3 on my Droid Maxx when it had some radio problem.

I still have the FXZ on my system: CFC-fastboot-obake-maxx_verizon-user-4.4-SU2-3-15-release-keys.xml

So, as far as HoM is concerned, I am probably repeating the steps that I did a couple of months ago.

If I go back to the HoM thead, I can see that I have already done all of the stuff two months ago. The HoM folder on my C drive is still intact.

So, I don't need to repeat any of those steps.

Edit: I basically start with the step of placing the phone in fastboot mode and running HoM. The script related work is already done for me.

Also, there is no universal script - it is just Full or Keep Data. So, should I select Keep Data while doing this downgrade?

Full has %FASTBOOT% erase userdata

Well, if you're going to use the HoM, you can do that and we can support that in the HoM thread.  This is a new tool that will EVENTUALLY be integrated into a future version of the HoM.  It's designed to vastly simplify the process.  There's no setup like the HoM.  You just install RSD if it's not already installed, download your FXZ, drop the RSDFlasher.jar file in the same directory (with no spaces in the path), and run the jar file.  The first time it runs it'll ask you where RSD is installed (the SDL.exe file), then it'll ask you for the FXZ's XML file (if you have it extracted) or the FXZ'z ZIP file (in which case it'll prompt you for a directory in which to extract the FXZ for you).  Then you pick FULL, KEEP DATA, or UNIVERSAL as you need.  It then pops open RSD and flashes whatever you picked for you.  So this tool is designed to replace the HoM and will eventually become part of a new version I've been working on.  If you're comfortable with the HoM and have it set up already, you can use that and it'll do the exact same thing as this tool.  Totally up to you which you wanna do.  But:

Since you're on 19.6.3, you can downgrade to 19.5.3 using UNIVERSAL or KEEP DATA.  Both will keep your data in tact

Run towel root to temp root

Use the WP off exploit

Persist root

Upgrade to 19.6.3 if you desire

At that point I would block the updater so it doesn't try to update to 21.11.21 else you ill lose WP off.

Yes. Perhaps wrong thread to write this, but:

1. All I had to do was put the device in fastboot mode and double click on the HoM batch file.

2. Device got downgraded to 19.5.3 and data is intact

3. Towelroot claimed to have rooted, but root checker said there is no root.

4. Removed it and re-installed towelroot, and root checker still said the same.

So, I have to look at other root method now.

Read through that thread.  It has detailed instructions for how to root, WP off, and persist it.  I'm not sure what post it's in but search that thread and you'll find it.

Yes. Reading that one. Somehow I am missing the part which requires me to install something on Windows for me to be able to run these adb commands.

Grab that and extract it to a folder on your hard drive.  Open a cmd prompt to the folder you extract them to and you can run adb from there.

LOL.  I really tried to make this the easiest possible tool to use to flash FXZ's.  There's really not much more I can do on that front I don't think.  LMAO

I can select the zip and the directory to extract to but then nothing happens.  I let it sit overnight while I slept like this.

That's nice. Did it show the screen where it extracts the files? Did you look I the directory where you told it to extract and check to see if there are files extracted there? Did you read the OP where it tells you that if you have issues with the extract that you should extract it manually and point it to the xml file in the extracted directory?
