Hah! Using my Jedi insight, I cracked Sam's obscure riddle! So now am I part of the "inner circle" or "cool people"?

:D

LMAO.  Sure why not.  Just take the warning seriously.  :)

This worked great thank you.  One thing I would point out is that the RSDFlasher.jar SHOULD NOT BE UNZIPPED.  If you download it as a zip file, you just eliminate the "zip" extension (rename it) and it works fine.  If you unzip it, it creates a folder that is not a "jar" file.  The instructions were a bit confusing to me since it said if your browser downloads it as a zip file its wrong, but for me that happended automatically (it downloaded as a zip).  So then of course I unzipped it, but that's wrong as noted you have to change the name of the file and NOT unzip it.

OK, so I am officially at my wits' end. Earlier today, my XT926 decided it was going to shut down and only boot as far as the "M Dual Core Technology" screen. Confused, I did what I could to try to restart, etc., to no avail. I'm able to get to Fastboot, so I embarked on the frustrating task of using the great tips offered here to use RSDFlasher. I've had no problems at all with RSDFlasher, RSD Lite, or even the HoM tools (my last ditch when the newer stuff didn't work. Problem is, no matter what I try to flash with the RSD, it fails. Full, Universal, KeepData...nothing will work. And every time, my phone tells me:

preflash validation failed for GPT

downgraded security version

update gpt_main version failed

As for RSD, it will say something along the lines of "Failed flashing process. 1/23 flash sbl1 "scl1.mbn" -> Phone returned FAIL"

And it is essentially the same for just different files based on the FULL/KEEPDATA/UNIVERSAL option used.

I have no clue what the heck is going on at this point. Seems like this should be working, but the phone (locked and never rooted, fyi) isn't allowing anything to flash. As for the Boot mode selection menu, the only thing that gives me anything but the "M" screen is Fastboot.

I just don't know what to do at this point. I've had a phone that just didn't respond to anything anymore (thanks Galaxy Nexus), but this is dumbfounding. Why won't it let any changes get made. Is it just dead or what?

As for

, I started with the latest (since I had all OTA updates to this point), but tried a few other old ones, as well. I'm sure I'm leaving out details someone needs, but please, if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks for what seems like a great community!

This is where you download the stock fxz file you will need to flash.

That is the stock KitKat. Use the tool in this thread to flash it via the instructions.  Should work for you. Note that you are using a usb 2.0 port and motorola factory cable.

If you flashed the latest soak build you're screwed for a while. Certainly doesn't look like you ever unlocked it... God knows why not. In any case if you were on the latest non soak build of 183 then you must use that FXZ. Older builds will not work so you can stop "trying things". You know the old expression about getting out of a hole? First stop digging. That'd apply here. Anyway, as I said if you applied the soak build of 183 you're screwed on many levels. If you were simply on the ota 183 then flash the FXZ and the go unlock immediately.

I have not taken the latest soak update. I wanted to confirm the bad written app issue. When I update to KitKat The Weather Channel app would eat the living crap out of my battery. For some reason it would not let go of the GPS, phone would also get hot. Some apps just don't like Kitkat or the soak. They will eventually be badly rewritten to appease the masses. I really don't know why some win 8.1 people are having issues. I develop my tools on win 8.1 and have had no problems. No idea.

UAC? It bites me in the arse every so often when I'm trying to do things remotely via script or command lines.

No idea then, I've run your flasher on both W7 and W8 without problems but I always open my command window with administrator permissions. maybe something to do with AV?

I really don't know. Seems odd to me. I suppose they could try to force sdl exe to run as admin and see if that works any better.

Hello there.

I've had many problems with KitKat on my Droid RAZR Maxx HD in Poland, Europe. As I use a Polish carrier's SIM card (GSM network), I had issues with Fast Dormancy, freezes, and random reboots.

I finally decided to downgrade to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (the latest available build).

This was the first operation of this kind for me but everything went as it should - correctly - thanks to your detailed instructions.

I went through Towel Root, unlocking the bootloader with Motopocalypse, and finally flashing Jelly Bean over KitKat with RSD Flasher.

Now I need to get rid of OTA, and eliminate this bootloader warning.

However, I need root access once again.

And here's my question: can I root 4.1.2 with Towel Root (the simpliest method I think) or do I need to find another way?

:)

Edit: Yes, it works... :p

Droid does...

Just FYI ..... Although towelroot works, if you have indeed unlocked bootloader........your BEST and EASIEST root method would be to install custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) and flash root thru recovery.....:)

Bah, too hard.  Just flash TWRP, boot into TWRP, tell it to reboot the system, and when it prompts you to install root, let it.  :)  Then install SuperSU from the play store and allow it to update the binary.  Done.
