my sister from california bought a razr droid from ebay and sent it here in the philippines, i bought a micro sim from the Globe telecoms, but when i turned on the phone, "THIS SIM CARD IS FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE." notice came out... from what i read, if i update the razr droid to ICS 4, i can finally use local sims like the one i bought (since ICS 4 supports local sims)... but the problem is, i cannot root my Droid razr because i cannot access the USB DEBUGGING from the phone (because it reads the sim as from an unknown source, hence its stuck in that status).... i tried downloading the
"Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip"
and placed it in the micro sd and tried to update using the micro sd but the
"E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted"
notice appears... i do not know what to do... HELP!!!
thank you in advance and more power!!!

The third download link should work. You need to Fastboot to .181 stock, then you should be able to upgrade to ICS with fastboot or OTA. Please note - the link is for a CDMA (US) branded RAZR, it WILL NOT work for a GSM device (you need a region specific blur file, and the file stacking is different).

I bought a RAZR xt912 through Verizon and used it for about 9 months. Last august, I started my year abroad in Israel (which I am currently in) and I noticed the same message. The sim card error message pops up every time you turn on the phone and should be ignored
At this point I am guessing calls/texts work fine but you don't get a data signal. What I did to fix that is set up an APN (access point network) using details that cellcom (my cell provider) gave me. Get the details from your provider and enter them into the phone by going to:
Settings
More...
Mobile Networks
Switch network mode to GSM/UTMS
Access Point Names
Menu button (far left hardware button)
New APN
As long as you fill it out exactly as your provider tells you, you should get internet access and have it on boot
One important thing to note is that any ROMS that are not based off of stock moto ICS don't have APN settings and can't get data with a different carrier
Here is a list of ROMS I have personally tried and can confirm work with APN:
Stock
SimpleXRom
Flick
Arctic
Arctic HD
Droid HD
Black Widow 214
STAY AWAY FROM CM9, CM10, AND AOKP UNTIL APN IS ADDED
Feel free to PM me with any more questions or email me

EDIT: after rereading your original post it has occurred to me that you might not be on ICS Just note that these are the required steps once you are upgraded
