My S3 may have the ability to mind read. I was getting my daughter down to bed and playing with my phone while she drifted off. I have had the lights on the menu and back buttons turned off for a few weeks and while I was sitting there I was thinking about whether I should turn them back on or not. I hit the home key and the two button lights came on for several seconds. They have not come on even once in the weeks i have had them turned off and they haven't come on again since those few seconds tonight. Cue spooky music.
BTW, once I saw them on again I decided I prefer them off.

Why not....on the stock ROM the phone can see whether or not your looking at the screen and turns the display on or off accordingly.
