Sam helped me unlock last year when I received my RAZR HD as a warranty replacement for my OG RAZR MAXX. First thing that happened when I fired up my phone and got it activated was it said there was an OTA. I immediately said no and then flew right to these forums to learn the following:

  1. Should I take the OTA or hold off since it might not allow me to root?
  2. Was I able to root the phone at all?
  3. Discovered the possibility to unlock the bootloader.
  4. Bugged Sam to death (after reading about it) if it was safe and was my version even possible (I was on 9.16 at the time).

Needless to say, within an hour of receiving the phone via FedEx, the phone was rooted and unlocked and I immediately went to getting Eclipse for the phone. Never looked back, never hesitated, never regretted it, especially after the KitKat OTA made such a mess of things for people.

A locked bootloader would have sucked after the KK OTA (that is, until someone discovered that Motorola gave a gift by putting the bootloader exploit back in).

But, I'm glad to see so many other people being given a first (or second) chance to unlock their phones.

I was rooted but locked before the new exploit, Praise GOD for HIS reprieve, now I'm updated, rooted, & unlocked on KK. Thanks Geo & Sam for your hard work. Looking forward to the possibilities.

I did mine the first go around, but happy to see others get a crack at it.... I love the rooting community, and hope it never goes away.

I unlocked it immediately! I had to use flashify in order to install the teamwin custom recovery, but I have not been able to find a current rom that has stereo Bluetooth working, but I know it's too early for that. I feel like I have my GN back!

nope same exploit that worked before. As long as you are on the 4.4.2 stock update. Towelroot will root ya and the old unlock exploit will unlock ya.

Up to 48 unlocks... not too shabby! You could count me twice though, I unlocked the GF's phone. Also trying to convince my brother to unlock his.

You know, though, there has to be a lot more that are unlocked but people haven't voted or aren't members on this site.

Yes I know, which is why I'm pleased.  I look at this as a representative percentage of HD/M owners.  The number of unlocks is staggering which really should breath some life into these devices. ROMS become possible again which means that once the last update rolls out you should still see some developer support past that point.
