Yea I know what I'm doing. I won't lose any data doing this. ;) The fix is simple though. For those with the black screen of death issue, follow these directions:

For those with the black screen of death issue AND/OR those coming from 905 you must do the following:

o) Install the WEBTOP installer from the OP
o) Reboot to AP Fastboot mode manually (Power + vol down)
o) On the utility menu, select Repair WEBTOP
o) When that completes, go to the main menu and select 246 FXZ options
o) KEEP FXZ << -- I think this is supposed to be "KEEP DATA"
Done. All fixed.

Since this was on the top of the very page you just posted on.... you're going to get really flamed if you dont do what it says and ask for support. Those that provide these tools do so out of their own kindness, as their way of giving back to the community, or to just give to the community in general. The least we can do as a community is to take the time to read.

Best rule of thumb for when youre looking into issues: Read the first few posts, and the last 4-5 pages of any forum posting, it should give you an idea of wether the issue you are seeing has been discovered, and potentially solved.

Good luck

If you are already running 246, you can use the 246FXZ again and again, so long as you can get to the basic internals of the phone (fastboot, recovery, etc)

You guys aren't gonna get any responses from me right now as I'm trying to rebuild the House of Bionic to fix these issues.

Ok, I just completed the HOB and am waiting for the phone to finish rebooting. It is taking a while though and isn't a normal reboot so I think something may be wrong.

I was stock 905 with 4ever root. Downloaded and installed the 9.1 installer, 246 fxz, and RSD setup. Phone is on charge only, fully charged battery, USB debugging on, I uninstalled Bionic Bootstrapper last night and cleared cache.

When the process started I chose fastboot mode, it booted to fastboot, and followed all the steps until finish. Through the process I had the droid standing up with the geoprism thing spinning in his belly. I waited for the progress bar on that to finish before I hit a key to progress to the next step, which I think was the finish. My phone rebooted with no boot logo, but I heard the sound of it, and now it's just a black screen and doing a little vibrate every 20 or so seconds. Any ideas what's going on?

Ok, I've manually rebooted into AP fastboot mode and am going to try it again. Daemoen, do you have any suggestions?

Read the posting I just made. You are coming into this from the same setup as me. Install the webtop, flash 246. done. ( im not breaking it down further than that as It is posted twice on this page :) )

Yes, but your post says if you're already running 246. I was stock 905 before I started this process. Will it still be the same?

There is a bug though. Flashing with RSD won't work. People need to do it in Fastboot mode for now.

Yeah, my bad, I didn't catch that response from Daemoen. But, I did flash in fastboot to begin with. I will install the webtop installer as the post says and go from there. Thanks.

Samurai, I am going to be helping a friend HoB his phone tonight and want to make sure I understand the procedure. I've HoB'ed my phone several times but not since the fxz addition.

Friend is running leak 230 now. He wants to fxz back to 905 and FDR first. I told him that's not a requirement but he wants a fresh start. So after he gets back to 905 I would:

1. Flash webtop
2. Flash 246 hob-fxz

So my question is twofold: a) is there a reason not to go to 905 before using the house? And B) is my (much abbreviated) procedure above correct?

Thanks
Scott

Ok, installed the webtob and manually booted to fastboot. Now it's on its 4th attempt "sending the webtop 262144 KB - okay, then "writing webtop - okay. And it keeps doing this over and over.

edit: Ok, nvm, it finished and i can see boot logo and animation now. That is all i needed. I have the lock screen and everything seems to be working. Should I still re-fxz 246?

You should essentially be running the FXZ at this point.

9.2 WINDOWS RELEASE

o) Completely rewritten flash code for FXZ and reinstall RSD mode
o) Detects vendor.img (webtop) in FXZ directory and flashes it during FXZ options

NOTES:

Those of you running into the black screen of death coming from 905 should update to 9.2 and use the FXZ KEEP DATA option

If he is on 230. there is no need to flash the webtop, it's the same as the one in 246. ONLY if he FXZ back to 905 then he should flash webtop.

No. Just use the FXZ KEEP DATA or FXZ Factory Reset options. No need to do any other $#!7. Use 9.2. And make sure to install the webtop installer.

Yes, but, I'm not taking any chances for people helping other people. Go the thorough route. Only burns time.

No need. Yes, webtop is a woof. That's why I don't flash it by default. It takes too goddamn long.
