I was lucky enough to get in on the soak test and was running 246 for several days with no hiccups. Over the weekend I let the battery completely drain - it isn't my main phone so I thought I'd test that out. After re-charging it yesterday, it wouldn't boot past the Droid Eye logo. I even let it sit for an hour or so with no luck. I decided to FXZ back to 905 and re-update from there. Apparently that was the wrong thing to do because it failed and was stuck in Fastboot mode. After trying for hours to find out how to unbrick it, I finally found HoB this morning and was able to restore Fastboot (Thanks for that!). I then used it to reinstall 246, did a Factory reset and rebooted. It got stuck on the Droid logo screen. I let it sit for a few hours earlier today when I went to work, but it never moved off that screen. I finally ended up pulling the battery to shut it down so that I wouldn't completely drain the battery. It's charging, so at least that still works.
Should I have followed the Install path for 246 instead of reinstalling it? I disconnected the USB cable before I ran the update that was on my SD card. Should I leave it plugged in? I don't know if the phone was ever rooted. I bought it off of eBay and I emailed the previous owner to find out, but he never got back to me. The Recovery screen shows "1/1" which I thought meant that it was rooted, but I've heard that it isn't all that reliable (reporting root on phones that were never rooted). Any ideas?
Thanks!

My apologies if this has already been asked and answered. I've read and re-read the FAQ a few times, used search, and read through most of this thread... at least from the last few days...

Well good thing you got it back up and going after trying to fxz back to 905. Not a good thing to try lol. Anyhoozles, did you try a factory data reset after applying the update in recovery?

Factory reset it. It's going to be the only way to get it to boot. If you're not sure how use the option in the HoB and do what it says.

I see you're getting fed up with people not listening/paying attention and that's completely understandable. Just know there are some of us out there that read everything word for word and understand the importance of searching first before asking. I greatly appreciate everything you have done for us.
Thanks again!

Yes, after I updated in recovery I did a factory reset from that same screen. Is the one in HoB more complete? I'm at work so I don't have the phone with me (and I think IT might be pissed if I installed HoB on the PC here anyway). Is it under Utilities?
It is under utilities but it just erases the data partition....same as the Factory Reset option in recovery. You're sure you did that and not wipe cache? You could try doing another reinstall in the HoB 8.5 and instead of cache wipe in recovery do a factory reset directly after applying the update and see if she'll boot that way.

Yes, I did the option that erases both the data and cache. I'll give it another go when I get home in a few hours. Does it usually hang for a bit on that Droid logo? I know it takes awhile to go through updating the apps and such - but I recall it didn't take long on the logo when I updated for the soak test. If I plug it into the charger while it's on that screen will it still use battery? If not, I'll let it sit over night just to be sure. I'm just worried about draining the battery all the way again.

Sam, i really think you need to add one thing to the HoB Section and the FAQ at the very top in big bold letters. It may fix alot of your tech support calls.
"I don't give a $#!7 if you brick while not following directions"
Fixed that there for ya. LMAO!

Yea it can hang there for a bit especially on first boot. And yes, the only way it'll charge is if the phone's fully booted.
Understood. I'll give it another go in a bit. Thanks for all your help!

No problem. If it doesn't work we may have to get more creative but I'm pretty close to out of ideas since that's the equivalent of a full 246 FXZ.
