No. As I said in another thread, once this OTA $#!7 is behind us, "support" for the HoB is going to radically change. It'll be a more "self service" model with a "too ____ing bad" response to issues caused by user stupidity. I don't have time to keep this up for another 4 months.

Ahh I see, so in that case you simply mail them the bottle of super glue along with instructions *LMFAO*

So I got a question. Is the .246 version I used HoB to get on my phone the same as the OTA? I was very close to updating to .247 but decided not to to see what happens. So does that mean I'm still on the upgrade path for JB if/when it ever comes out?

People that have been with me since the beginning won't be affected cause they don't need hand holding. Others that don't read and jump in and expect support are going to be sorely disappointed. There are really two categories of issues. 98% of them fall into usage problems. cough cough. Those will no longer be dealt with by me going forward. At all. They'll be ignored completely. The other 2% are when I have bugs in my code or some really unique scenario comes up that really wasn't caused by user......lack of experience.....shall we say. Those I'll help with. It's going to be a LOT more hands off going forward. In a rather shocking way most likely.

I've been rooted and have made some modifications to my bionic so it's giving me the error 7. I'm trying to flash back to 905 so that I can update to ICS. My prompt is <waiting for device>...nothing more. I've seen the updating mdm text but it just hangs...any insights? I'm running HOB for linux/mac.

My phone is is fastboot..Transfer mode: USB Connected.
Battery OK
OK to Program

Nevermind...I ended up using Windows in a VM. Works better. The Linux/Mac scripts lost connection to the USB and didn't work...could be because of my VM...Anyway. I was able to flash and am now installing ICS through recovery.

Thanks!

That'll do it. I take it by the "my bad" comment that you did indeed figure out that 246 is 246, no matter where it came from?

Always good to make sure though. Sometimes there might be minor differences and yet things be labeled the same =]

I believe Motorola would need to purposely break their own versioning system in order for that to happen, though.

It was stated mutlple times in the thread and on other boards. TBH you are correct that there could be differences, I haven't seen it with Android firmware, but it happened quite often on WebOS leaks from OTA, when I was use a Palm.

If your using a option that is running damien and searching for device, don't go into Fastboot. If you recieve fastboot errors, then you don't say yes to a program that doesn't want you in fastboot. States alot across the two threads.

It *CAN'T* happen in the Moto Android world. I've explained this so many times. First off, their build system doesn't allow the same build number to be used for more than one build. They apply patches that get rolled into a specific build. Being a software engineer that specializes in build systems I understand fully how it works. They COULD do it if someone went in and manually ____ed with the build system. Someone would then end up getting fired over it. It's NEVER happened on the bionic. Leaks and OTA have always been identical. ALWAYS. I don't give a $#!7 what people CLAIM. They're wrong. As simple as that. Second, I'm paranoid. I do my own due diligence in the off chance I'm wrong about there being a difference between a leak and OTA. Therefore I PERSONALLY verified the OTA against my leak. An MD5 hash is mathematical proof that two files are identical in EVERY way. That's why I choose to use it. I also verified the about phone screen as a secondary check. You see what I'm getting at here? If I say they're the same, they are the same whether you choose to believe it or not. This is my final word on this subject as it's stating to piss me off. I get pm's and messages on every single board I belong to asking this same dumbass question over and over again. Here's a thought....since I put so much time into developing the House of Bionic, do you think you'd probably see a BIG arse warning in my FAQ if there were a different build with the same build number? Doesn't it look like I pay attention to all details in my work? Just sayin'....I almost find it insulting that people keep asking this ____ing question...

I am in the middle of the Hob process and everything is good so far. I am to the step where it says to select apply update from sd card. when I press down volume the blue highlight goes down and when I press up volume the blue highlight goes up. I have the blue highlight on apply update from sdcard. How to I select it to move to the next step?

Holy $#!7 really? It tells you in the HoB EXACTLY how to do that......no one reads anymore. THIS right here is why I'm getting out of the HoB support game...

I did read. I read the FAQ twice. I read the HOB OP and I am following step by step through your program. It did not say how to select option in recovery. The last step was vol down and then vol up to select. In this screen it is not the same. no where in the hob instructions did it say how to select using the power button. It's all good now I am back on track and will continue to follow every step word for word.

P.S. I would not have gone this route if the OTA was working for me.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, technically, you can have two different files hash the same. That being said, the likelihood of getting two different files hashing the same actually looking alike (as in, both could actually flash a build of Android that look the same) is somewhere around zero.

Same ultimate outcome, though.

Damn, I take back what I said. The note about the power button was below the bullet points. I was going step by step and had not looked down that far on the screen yet. Humble apologies.

Hence why I did the secondary check of the about phone. I told you, I'm paranoid. The likelihood that two update zips that are signed are going to create the same md5 has yet be different is approaching 0.
