I'm on 246. Want to root.

On HoB 8.4, I chose U for Utility, then 5 for Root.

Last thing script says is "Daemon started successfully".

Then wait...wait.....wait..... Nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

To start off I wanted to say I read your FAQ and your OP as well as scanning thru a bit of the replys to this post trying to find something that might be able to help me. My problem im running into is trying to apply the 246 update. I was running safestrap so I returned to my unsafe side and uninstalled the safestrap recovery then I uninstalled safestrap. Also I was running the .232 leak. Then I FXZ'ed to .905 and applied the .246 update. It updated fine with no errors but when I rebooted it doesnt go past the "M" Motorolla boot logo (also I noticed that its just the "M" logo, it doesnt say "Dual core technology" under the logo like normal. Also now I can not boot into recovery, when I try it takes me to the "M" boot logo screen. Any boot option I choose now takes me to the boot logo screen OTHER THEN AP fastboot. AP fastboot loads as normal. I dont know if this matters but incase it does, before 246 came out as the OTA when I would FXZ to .905 and update to 232 after I did the FXZ to .905 I was never able to boot to .905, it would get stuck at the boot logo screen. The only way I was able to get my phone to boot was to do the FXZ then apply the 232 update over it. Seems to me it would load the .905 FXZ but it wouldnt be bootable. I figured it would be the same with 246, FXZ to .905, update right away to 246 and it would boot. Sadly not After this failed (leaving me stuck at boot logo screen no matter what i tried, other then AP fastboot) I went ahead and tried the HoB 246 install. I had no errors and it seemed to install just fine. However after it finished I am still not able to boot into recovery (boots to and gets stuck on logo screen) to apply the update. Then I did the HoB 246 reinstall with same outcome. I hope I have given enough info about my problem. If I left anything out that would help I will sure be glad to explain anything else the best i can And I would like to thank Samuri (and many others here but maybe just a liiiiittle bit less lol) for all the work/time/patience he has put into HoB and the help he has provided so many of us bionic'ers =p Sorry for such a long post :/

This one's interesting. Bootlooping like that implies corrupt data. I'm going to give you specific instructions and if they don't work you might be the only one stuck til an fxz comes out. Sadly this is going to wipe your data partition.

O) boot the phone into ap fastboot mode
O) load up the house
O) on the utility menu use the factory reset option
O) If the phone reboots put it back in AP fastboot mode
O) Use the reinstall option starting at the flash step

See what happens. Note that the update must be on your sdcard before you do this. Since the phone isn't booting you'll have to pull the sdcard and manually copy it there if it's not already. I'll need specific info if this fails.. Copy the output of the flash step, any errors you get, etc. I'll see what I can do to help.

Good morning Sam,

I'm doing some clean up of folders on my PC and want to know if it's OK to just delete some files.

My download folder has SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic installers all the way back to 6.4 as well as the Components; RSD versions 5.7 and 6.14; and leaks 242, 244 and 247 (yeah, I'm a bit of a pack rat ). Unless you advise otherwise, I'm just going to delete all the HoB versions except 8.4 and all the leaks except 246.

However, the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic folder is where my questions arise... there are folders for leaks 242, 244 and 247; as well as the current 246. I see that HoB has menu options for 242, 244 and 247 when I run it. If I just delete the older versions' folders, will the options in HoB go away as well or is there another preferred way to clean up the HoB folder.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Get deleting. HoB menu is dynamic. ;)

Total noob here with absolutely no experience whatsover with this stuff. I read everything twice and decided to give it a shot. 30 min later I am enjoying a tasty ice cream sandwhich. Seriously awesome tool Sam. Thanks for making it easy for us non tech savy folks. If you can read and follow instructions you can do this! Thanks again Sam

8.5 WINDOWS RELEASE

o) No longer prompt the user for NON optional steps
o) REINSTALL option vastly changed. Should be used to repair failed installs/bricks
o) Surprise change to the apply update instruction page....see what happens when people piss me off by not reading? :)

NOTE: To use the REINSTALL option you MUST have the update zip on your sdcard and be in AP Fastboot mode BEFORE using it.

A note to those who want to try out the House of Bionic in DEMO mode before actually taking the plunge. The changes I've made make that rather difficult now.

o) Add a USERSD file to the HoB directory (see the FAQ)
o) Keep the phone UNPLUGGED
o) Say N to the transfer, check md5, and ap fastboot reboot steps (cause you don't have your phone connected and it would lock until it finds it)
o) You can safely say Y to the flash step to see what it looks like
o) Pretend you did what the apply update page tells you and follow what it tells you to say at the bottom of the screen.
o) Say N to the root step

This will give you a pretty good idea of the process for the House of Bionic. Remove the USERSD file (unless you want to use RSD to flash), plug your phone in, and do it for real.

Hi Everyone,

On the Moto Forums people who have never been rooted have been saying that .246 is reporting that their phones have been rooted. Anyone else heard anything about there being false positives with this "tool/feature"? Hope so as it would make it completely worthless and help out rooters. :P

It's been a consistent issue with all the Bionic ICS builds. A lot of people are saying "well, if I'm gonna be accused, I might as well enjoy it!" and are rooting as a result of the root checker. LMAO.

I haven't forgotten about the Linux/Mac version. I've just been insanely busy dealing with a lot of issues that have come up since the OTA release. I'll make some time to bring the Linux/Mac version up to speed soon.

The question is, if someone screws up HoB-ing because it's "taking too long", do you make a personal appearance at their home with a bottle of super glue, to glue the battery compartment shut? *LMAO*

So I got a question. Is the .246 version I used HoB to get on my phone the same as the OTA? I was very close to updating to .247 but decided not to to see what happens. So does that mean I'm still on the upgrade path for JB if/when it ever comes out?

No. As I said in another thread, once this OTA $#!7 is behind us, "support" for the HoB is going to radically change. It'll be a more "self service" model with a "too ____ing bad" response to issues caused by user stupidity. I don't have time to keep this up for another 4 months.
