Samurai,
Here is my story. I bought the Bionic from a friend a couple months ago for $125. I read of it's potential and I was using a freaking LG Revolution. I found The HOB and followed Samurai at DF for a long time. I am the biggest noob around when it comes to phones. I have never rooted anything. I read everything and followed as much of the HOB news and info as I could. I finally got anxious and confident enough to try it when 247 dropped. I softbricked my phone......I stuck with HOB and read some more. I manually moved some files and finally got 247 installed. My first dose of ICS was fantastic. I did/do not care if we ever get JB. My battery lasts so long, it's unbelievable... Anyway, after bricking the phone, I was not looking forward to trying another update through HOB....I was scared I missed something.

I just finished with .246. It was simple, amazingly so. Thank you for all the support you have given. Thank you for making it easy enough that I did not need to crawl in here and ask questions and feel stupid. Thank you for whatever you give us next.

My phone is currently on 247 and I am unsuccessfully trying to install 246. When I select "INSTALL 246" from HoB, the script hangs at "* daemon started successfully *". After reading the FAQ and this entire thread, it looks like ADB can't see my phone and a factory reset may be necessary. However, I would like to avoid losing data if at all possible. Here are the things I have tried:

- Initially tried installing 246 with HoB 8.1, the same version I used to install 247 on the same computer (Windows 7 desktop).
- Tried installing 246 using 2 additional computers (WIndows 7 laptops), same results
- Uninstalled Motorola drivers and HoB 8.1, installed drivers and HoB 8.4. Same results.
- Booted into AP Fastboot and allowed computer to install drivers, rebooted phone and computer. Same results.
- Phone is on MTP mode and USB Debugging is enabled.
- Unchecked USB Debugging, re-enabled it. Same results.
- Tried several different cables, including the one that worked to install 247 (not factory cable).
- Tried several different USB ports on several different computers.

I would be thrilled if there were a way to get to 246 without losing data, but if a FDR is my only option I understand. Thank you for all of the great support this community provides, especially Samuri!

I don't know if this was addressed in a later comment and I missed it, but isn't there an option to "Downgrade" rather than "Install" when going from 247 to 246?

Ok, for some reason, I thought I saw it in one of the FAQs and/or HowTos in the OP

I STILL haven't had a chance to use it to go from 232 to 246. Just installing drivers for fastboot now

The FAQ specifically states to get to 246, you use the 246 INSTALL option. If that fails, use the 246 REINSTALL option.

The key to asking a stupid question is stating it in a way that makes it sounds like a very thought thru investigated question.

I hate when I get the black screen of death. After a year of flashing, bricking, restoring, flashing more, I know I'll eventually get out of the problem. But I still hate the feeling! I got one tonight.

My error in the process occurred at the point in the HOB script when it tells you to go to stock recovery and install 246 from external sd card. Simple enough instruction to follow. The update wasn't there! I could have sworn the HOB script confirmed that the file was copied to the external sd.

So I did some failed, panicky stuff: battery pulls, replicated the AP Fastboot mode steps, saw the file not there for the 3rd time, broke a sweat . . . so stupid.

Then the Easy Solution came to me: I pulled the sd-ext, put it in a card reader, copied the blur...246 zip onto it.
I then went into recovery and flashed with no problem. Friggin Duh.

back to script and easily rooted.
So I guess I had a 20 minute wrong turn.

just installed safestrap 3.05. gonna flash a rom, set it up and restore apps. then go to sleep!

once again, thanks Samurai for the great work.

I had it today as well, something caused the update to say that i already had it on my card, which I didn't, i had the .905 to .232 update on there, so when it tried updating it hit the sequrity problem i assume. My brother had a droid 4 and had the key to open his back, so that I threw my sd card in his phone to transfer the file over.

To start off I wanted to say I read your FAQ and your OP as well as scanning thru a bit of the replys to this post trying to find something that might be able to help me. My problem im running into is trying to apply the 246 update. I was running safestrap so I returned to my unsafe side and uninstalled the safestrap recovery then I uninstalled safestrap. Also I was running the .232 leak. Then I FXZ'ed to .905 and applied the .246 update. It updated fine with no errors but when I rebooted it doesnt go past the "M" Motorolla boot logo (also I noticed that its just the "M" logo, it doesnt say "Dual core technology" under the logo like normal. Also now I can not boot into recovery, when I try it takes me to the "M" boot logo screen. Any boot option I choose now takes me to the boot logo screen OTHER THEN AP fastboot. AP fastboot loads as normal. I dont know if this matters but incase it does, before 246 came out as the OTA when I would FXZ to .905 and update to 232 after I did the FXZ to .905 I was never able to boot to .905, it would get stuck at the boot logo screen. The only way I was able to get my phone to boot was to do the FXZ then apply the 232 update over it. Seems to me it would load the .905 FXZ but it wouldnt be bootable. I figured it would be the same with 246, FXZ to .905, update right away to 246 and it would boot. Sadly not :( After this failed (leaving me stuck at boot logo screen no matter what i tried, other then AP fastboot) I went ahead and tried the HoB 246 install. I had no errors and it seemed to install just fine. However after it finished I am still not able to boot into recovery (boots to and gets stuck on logo screen) to apply the update. Then I did the HoB 246 reinstall with same outcome. I hope I have given enough info about my problem. If I left anything out that would help I will sure be glad to explain anything else the best i can :) And I would like to thank Samuri (and many others here but maybe just a liiiiittle bit less lol) for all the work/time/patience he has put into HoB and the help he has provided so many of us bionic'ers =p Sorry for such a long post :/

I'm on 246. Want to root.

On HoB 8.4, I chose U for Utility, then 5 for Root.

Last thing script says is "Daemon started successfully".

Then wait...wait.....wait..... Nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Good morning Sam,

I'm doing some clean up of folders on my PC and want to know if it's OK to just delete some files.

My download folder has SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic installers all the way back to 6.4 as well as the Components; RSD versions 5.7 and 6.14; and leaks 242, 244 and 247 (yeah, I'm a bit of a pack rat :) ). Unless you advise otherwise, I'm just going to delete all the HoB versions except 8.4 and all the leaks except 246.

However, the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic folder is where my questions arise... there are folders for leaks 242, 244 and 247; as well as the current 246. I see that HoB has menu options for 242, 244 and 247 when I run it. If I just delete the older versions' folders, will the options in HoB go away as well or is there another preferred way to clean up the HoB folder.

Thanks for any suggestions!
