Depends. If you have UAC enabled probably. Although I don't know. I turn that $#!7 off.

Actually, running HoB in admin mode on Win7 is BAD. It will tell you that HoB components are missing.

At the risk of Sami's wrath, I just finished HOB to 246 on a totally stock 905 bionic. Everything appeared to go perfectly, except now after phone has booted. It is stuck on the phone page, with the keypad showing. I can enter numbers on the keypad, but little else. It appears to be doing a bunch of stuff in the upper notification bar, but is not otherwise responding.
Is this normal after an upgrade? Do I just let it sit for a while? Sorry for the question, but i did read and did not find anything like this. I am a noob and this is my first use of HOB.
Thanks,

It might take a while for the update to settle in. Did you wipe cache or do a FDR while in recovery?

Pull the battery. See if that helps. Failing that factory reset.

Did a wipe cache, but not a factory reset. I'll try pulling battery in a bit. Want to let it settle in and see if it finishes doing something in background?
Thanks

Usually after the upgrade I will let it sit for a few minutes to let everything settle in. Not sure if it helps lol. If you wiped cache and it's still laggy or slow to respond a factory data reset might be necessary. Hope it works for ya.

I was like a friggin Lemming, scrambling from side of the cliff to the other, reading every post on upgrading. Left brain said, "remember the last time you tried to upgrade your phone, don't do it again, wait for the friggin OTA"!

The right side of my brain said, "You can do this, it's easy, just follow along and it will be OK, you don't really want to wait do you"?

Well, I followed your instructions to the tee, I read and reread, and Wooohooooo, I'm now on 246 and my phone still works!

Thank You Team Sam, for your time, energy and expertise. I appreciate your hard work.

Again, thanks.

SamuriHL,

THANKS for HOB (2nd time thanking you for your script), I've used it a few times now. First use was to get off 905 (saved me months of anger since was able to use leaks to get ICS) to .223 (i think). Then second use to go from .223 to .233. Third use yesterday to go from .232 to .905 (wanted to feel fresh and take OTA). OTA wasn't happening so used HOB again to put .246 on. Phone is by far the best it has ever been, it kicks arse right now.

I only keep up with this stuff so I can have a phone that works like it should. I'm definitely not well versed with messing with android mods and everything else, but research/read very carefully (thanks to forums and devs that post on them), get what I want/need done, and leave it at that. As a low-level Android tinkerer, I usually have to do a ton of research to find what I need and how to do it. I have no problem with this, helps me learn and a little legwork should be expected for sh1t like this. In past I've used SafeStrap with many different ROMs, so know the very general idea of how things work. I mention all of this just to give insight into my experience. All the research I normally do was confined these last few times to your HOB and HOB FAQ thread. It saved me HOURS!!!!!

I don't have hardly any posts here, or the old site, because I don't ask questions unless I can't find the answer ANYWHERE. I do see all the questions you get (90% shouldn't be asked since info already posted) and see how it makes you feel a lil like, "Why do I spend my time on this stuff if people just jump the gun and ask instead of reading for themselves?" Which finally is my point for this post: MANY people are probably like me, silently taking MUCH benefit from your efforts, but not wanting to bog you down more with extra posts.

So again, MAJOR thanks from myself and those who have silently been enjoying your great work.

Thanks for the help. Nothing seemed to free up the screen, so I Had to do a factory reset and now all is well. I did get a message after the reset that my default desktop was not responding and had to tell it to revert to the default. I think I might know what caused that; I had custom widgets installed and I am wondering if this didn't cause an issue during the upgrade? Guess I didn't clean it up enough before the upgrade. The HOB was great and went without a hitch, thank you everyone for making it available. I think my issue was old stuff not being compatible with ICS after the final reboot.
Thanks all,
All is good on 4.04

No. I'm holding off. The Bionic + HoB is going to last me for quite some time. Especially now that we're confirmed to get JB. When I see something twice as good that's unlockable, then I'll consider it. If you get a new phone, make sure it's not locked. Then you'll have a dev community around it.

I can't really bring myself to do HTC or LG. I want a Moto Nexus personally. I can probably hold off another year to get one.

I agree with you on the MotoNex. The 1.5ghz quad core in the DLX just sounds like a beast.

Don't get me wrong the specs look decent on the DLX. But, HTC battery notoriously SUCK. Badly.

Very true. Took a lot if kernel flashing and an extended battery on my TB to get it to last a day lol

Hello! May I ask why we MUST upgrade/downgrade to 246?

Trying to understand the process...I am (was) on 247.

Nope. I'm done trying to convince people that staying off the OTA path is idiotic.

Because. 246 is the OTA and the only way to get further updates such as JB

Sent from my IcarusHD Edition Bionic, not to be confused with my CM10 or .246 HoB Edition Bionics.

you don't really need to. That being said, you'll be off the upgrade path when JB drops, and Sam isn't supporting anything other than .246
