My phone is currently on 247 and I am unsuccessfully trying to install 246. When I select "INSTALL 246" from HoB, the script hangs at "* daemon started successfully *". After reading the FAQ and this entire thread, it looks like ADB can't see my phone and a factory reset may be necessary. However, I would like to avoid losing data if at all possible. Here are the things I have tried:
- Initially tried installing 246 with HoB 8.1, the same version I used to install 247 on the same computer (Windows 7 desktop).
- Tried installing 246 using 2 additional computers (WIndows 7 laptops), same results
- Uninstalled Motorola drivers and HoB 8.1, installed drivers and HoB 8.4. Same results.
- Booted into AP Fastboot and allowed computer to install drivers, rebooted phone and computer. Same results.
- Phone is on MTP mode and USB Debugging is enabled.
- Unchecked USB Debugging, re-enabled it. Same results.
- Tried several different cables, including the one that worked to install 247 (not factory cable).
- Tried several different USB ports on several different computers.
I would be thrilled if there were a way to get to 246 without losing data, but if a FDR is my only option I understand. Thank you for all of the great support this community provides, especially Samuri!
CRAP. You've done your homework and detailed very well. THANK YOU for that. Unfortunately I don't have a good solution for you. I would back up your apps with TiBU or Rom Toolbox Pro, factory reset it, do the 246 install, then restore your apps. Benefit is that you got a clean install after. I really don't have any better suggestions. Again, thanks for the thorough post. I truly do appreciate it.

Thank you for the quick response, and this is what I was expecting. Unfortunately, I didn't root when installing 247. Now ADB can't see my phone, so I don't believe I can root using HoB. I have a TiBU PRO key from back when I had an OG Droid, but I don't think I can use it without root.

$#!7. Yea, you are correct. I think there's one backup program that works without root but I don't know what it is. UGH.

Found another Moto cable and this time it took. Running 246, looks like I didn't lose much, although I had backed up both internal and SD earlier in the week so I can pull them in.
Awesome work and a great supportive community here!!!

I finished factory resetting my phone and successfully ran HoB to get to 246. Thanks again for all of the help! Now off to reconfigure all of my apps, homescreens, widgets, etc.

Noob question on my part. Do you have to run the HoB.bat as admin on windows 7?

Well, I'm glad you're on 246 finally but it sucks you had to do a forced factory reset. Look at the positive side though....your phone will have never run better!

Depends. If you have UAC enabled probably. Although I don't know. I turn that $#!7 off.

No you don't, not on Win7. On Vista you'd probably have to kill UAC.

Haha gotcha. I haven't had much experience with Windows 7 is why I asked.

Exactly, always good to know what to expect. I figured I could chime in on that one with perfect accuracy because I'm on a very fresh and unaltered Win7 install and UAC was not an issue at all. In fact on Win7 I don't think I've ever done anything with the UAC. Vista is another matter altogether, it's a pita on there.

As Roofa already answered, you probably don't, but it can't hurt! I always do just because Win 7 is such a PIA with all of the security things.
