Here is a scenario not covered in the FAQ. Can the HoB procedure be used as a safe guard to an OTA mishap? For example, my daughter is away at college with her Bionic. If I have her download the 246 zip to her phone before she receives the OTA, can the HoB procedure be used to fix her phone should the the OTA cause the phone be be bricked?

Sure. It can be used as a mini-fxz so long as the update is on her phone.

Thanks. I'll instruct her to download the 246 zip and hope that nothing goes wrong with her OTA update.

I'm not am expert at support but I used HoB to go from .232 to 246 without data loss. Worked fine and I was happy.

Later, after mucking around quite a bit flashing different things, I decided to back up my apps with a backup program and did a factory data reset. I feel like it's probably smoother and the few bits of wonkiness are gone.

So, in general the advice is to give it a whirl and if you have issues do a factory data reset.

Yes and no. Sadly others have missed that as well. What I was thinking about/suggesting was this:
Q: Now that the 246 OTA is out, do I need to keep the 246 Zip file on my SDCard?
A: Until we get the 246 FXZ file, I strongly recommend you keep that zip file on your SDCard, without it I can't help you fix your phone when/if you brick it.

LOL! Yup that works too! Thanks Sam! Again points for style.

I only suggested it because w/the OTA coming out people can and do get confused and given the technical nature of that people like having an exact (My situation == This) type thing.

Sam, it may rain in my area today. I'm not sure whether I should take an umbrella or not. If I do, should I take a collapsible umbrella or a big golf umbrella? If I take the big one, will I be future-proofed against thunderstorms, or just covered for regular showers?

The last time I took a collapsible type, it blew inside out. Did any of your other users have that happen? I don't know what I could have done to the umbrella to make it do that, and the manufacturer says it's wind-proof, so I think your script must have had something to do with it. How do I fix that?

Jesus, people, RTFM. I don't understand how Sam has the patience to answer so many repeated and inane questions, but we're lucky to have the support we do -- seeing as neither our carrier nor device maker really give two $#!7s. The least we can do is take 10 minutes to read the instructions.

100 Agree, Sam has been a god send dealing with these leaks

SamuriHL, to do the HoB way of going back to the update path, if I am on 247, I just install 246 over it, or do I need to grab an FXZ file and go that way?

Don't think..start hob and follow the prompts.

Questions are fine if someone reads the FAQ and OP and need some clarification. Questions answered in the FAQ that was blatantly not read is when I start to get ugly.

Don't worry! I just checked with Verizon Tech Support and they assure me that it will not rain today, and even if it does, either umbrella will work, and if there is wind, you can return the umbrella to your Verizon store for a used replacement, unless you have rooted it.

As I've stated many times already, because all other builds are dead/unsupported. Even by me. The idea of playing with leaks is to check them out until we get the OTA. It's not to stay off the OTA path indefinitely "just because it's a higher build." Since I don't support it, and VZW/Moto certainly won't support it, my recommendation is to get off of leaked builds and onto the new OTA build asap.
