I installed the HoB tonight. Since I'm on 905 and not bouncing around the ics leaks I just copied 247 to the root of the sd card, rebooted into stock recovery, cleared the cache, and installed from the zip. Got the Status 7 error referencing /tmp/sideload/package.zip. Nothing frozen, no stock apps deleted.

Launched HoB to give it a go, first tried the show processor option and get an error that the adb server is out of date... killing..

Tried the 247 install option and keep getting adb server out of date errors. I've had adb installed on this laptop for a long time. Installed the latest SDK, still getting these errors.

So... something is keeping me from installing 247 over 905 the normal way, from the sd card, just like the ota would. And something else is keeping HoB from running. I have the usb settings correct, charge only and debugging on.

The HoB issue could be laptop related, sure. But the direct install from the sd card should be working. If I cannot install from the card the ota isn't going to work either. I really don't want to do a FDR just to test that option because it could still fail.

Any ideas?

You seriously cleared the cache first BEFORE applying the update? WHY? And did you verify the MD5 hash of the update that was copied to your sdcard by hand to make sure it didn't get corrupted during the copy? Your ADB issue sounds like ADB is running somewhere. Open task manager and kill all instances of it.

I don't do roms. That's why you find no information about them in my threads. Look into Obsidian's thread of all things bionic. It'll give you all the info you need.

Yes I cleared the dalvik cache before rebooting (I know... not necessary either) and cleared the other cache in recovery because it was the next best thing to doing a FDR before updating. I'm used to doing this from my days of loading roms on the og droid. This bionic is stock except forever rooted and some root only apps.

I did not manually verify the hash, but used HoB to verify it and got the same out of date errors.

If I kill adb in task manager it immediately returns. I cannot even find adb in msconfig under startup or services. ugh

Sad thing is I used to root and install roms all the time in the past. Been out of the scene for the last year.

You've gotta fix that ADB issue. The HoB didn't verify it which means you have no idea if it's corrupt. Manually verify it by getting the md5 hash and comparing it to the file on your PC. I want to be clear about this cache clearing business. I recommend a cache wipe *AFTER* the update installs, but, *BEFORE* reboot. Notice...AFTER the update, not before. If you clear it before applying the update, it'll fail every time.

Samuri I believe this is why it's failing for him, does he not have to be stock without forever root to be able to install the update.

forever root modifies files and the update checks them and fails due to the changes.
I defer to Sam's knowledge for a final answer.

Yes, that's why I said adb needs to be fixed. There's so many problems. One at a time.

Ok... so... I'm stupid... please don't hate me... how do I put it in USB debug?

I started the process but it's been stuck just after starting the Daemon for a while... I figure since the debug step is the only one I skipped maybe that's my problem... or perhaps it's whatever craptacular root/os the previous moron/owner put on it. It's 905... but for some reason the other three methods I used last night to upgrade to ICS failed. I need help... PLEEEEEEEZE ... I'll pout and bat my lashes en everything! lol
