WAS rooted, yes. Not rooted anymore. Yea, boot into recovery and do an FDR. Something definitely got whacked. You'll need to use the linux based exploit to re-root it. And you'll need to reinstall all the apps. Good times!

Thanks Samuri! You are an awesome resource and true asset to this community. I reflashed with the Wipe option and we are back in business!

Hi Sam,
I'm also returning back to the House of Bionic. I had a nice stay last time, and it's good to be back.
My backup bionic is still on .246 and rooted. I want to move to JB with the option to downgrade to ICS. I remember someone said it was possible to copy the 246 cdt.bin to the 22 FXZ and that made downgrading possible.
Does that work? What else do I need to know?
You da man

It should work. You will have to re-root using the Linux JB exploit. But you will be able to FXZ back to 246 if you do it that way.

So the cdt.bin trick prevents the root-keeper from root-keeping? Or is it the general FXZ process that kills it? I'm guessing the latter.
Also, that HoB Darth Vader sh!t is bad@as$

FXZ wipes root. Any time you flash the system img you'll lose root. There's an easy root vm solution in Bionic general that should hook you up.

From the House of Bionic thread you failed to read:
o) You may use the FXZ Keep Data to update an older (or non-OTA) build to the latest without losing data.
From the House of Bionic FAQ you failed to read:
Q: I want to go to a new build on the Bionic. What's the quickest and easiest way? What if I'm on an old and/or non-OTA build?
A: Read this fully: Then once it's installed, use the FXZ Keep Data option.

Two part answer. To fix ota do a FDR. Or simply fxz directly to jb. If you want to root it there's a way to do that once on jb.

The reason I'm not even having them attempt to fix the OTA update problem is because there is never going to another OTA update anyway. All they have to do is run the FXZ Keep Data option and they'll be on JB with all their data and apps in tact. Root isn't even part of this discussion.

I was unfortunatly sent to this forum by mistake. I was looking for a step by step instruction list. Unfortunatly what you have tho usefull for those in the hacking comunity is beyond my comprehension. Too much information is considered to already to be known by the user. Fortunatly after 3 transfers within Verizon, and 2 at Motorola, I found someone to actually talk me through fixing the problem. Sorry for wandering into your domain.

It's not really fair to blame an entire forum for not finding a hold my hand guide. All of the info you needed (and any non-technical person) exist here and even in a FAQ.

Another comment of thanks to Samurai for putting together the tools to allow me to do a FXZ + FDR on Jelly Bean release. Hadn't done either of those since the GB release. Following the steps worked perfectly, no issues. The Bionic phone is flying again. Thank you for your documentation and time developing the HoB.

You should look for it where it's always been. I don't know why people bookmark the thread itself....it does get restarted often. As is the case here.
