After running the HoB fxz and root process I was left without a superuser app, VooDoo was there but no su app.  I originally tried koush's version as well as super su.  Neither of those work without installing the chainsdd version first, granting access, then install the other superuser and it will allow updating the binaries.

I was confused as to why the chainsdd one was the only one that would work and be able to grant permission to itself to update the binaries.

Stupid bugs.  I'll try to get the HoB 10.1 update out today but it needs more work. I've switched from using ChainDD's stuff to Koush's in the latest version.  The new version will attempt to remove any root remnants but it's not perfect at it. When it's done, the HoB will have 3 functions:

Root (RAZR's Edge slightly modified with Koush's Superuser)

Protect Root

Restore Root

Protect root will be automagically called after Root. Restore root will only work if the protect root from the HoB was used.

So, the version of Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper that I put into the HoB in 9.9 and 10.0 seems to be corrupt and doesn't work right.  I'm fixing it in 10.1, but, if you used the HoB and it installed it, uninstall it and reinstall from the play store.  HoB 10.1 switches to Koush's superuser so if that's not your thing, you can either replace superuser.apk and su in the HoB\root directory or root with another method.  Obviously this only applies to ICS users.  I'm also building a HoB backup and restore SU function that works on the same principle as Voodoo as a protection against failure and/or forgetfulness.   :)  When you root with the HoB in ICS, it'll automagically create the HoB root backup.

Just for another data point...

Yesterday morning I used HoB 10.0 to do a 246 FXZ Keep Data, then used the HoB Root function and successfully obtained root.  I then took the OTA and VooDoo obtained root with no problem (that i am aware of).  Maybe the Keep Data option made the difference with VooDoo.

One question though.  I see SuperSU in the Manage Apps list but it doesn't appear if I just push the apps button on the phone.  Do I have some cleaning up to do to keep out of trouble?

It would seem like it.  And the HoB in theory won't overwrite Voodoo if you already had it installed (the new version may when I get to releasing it) which is why it worked for you.  But yea, I would clean all that up.

Well I guess I have to ask the question.  What should I be cleaning up?  Get rid of SuperSU Pro?  Replace Superuser with SuperSU or something else?  Apparently nothing needs to be done with VooDoo? Or now that I'm on 22 with root VooDoo will be of no value in the future?

If voodoo restored you're root, you're good.  And it never hurts to leave Voodoo on there and keep updated protected su backups.

As for Superuser/SuperSU are concerned, it's a matter of preference. I've switched to Koush's Superuser.  I'd avoid ChainDD's as people have had problems with it on JB.  CM switched to Koush's Superuser.  SuperSU is fine...I've been using it for a very long time until yesterday so whatever you're comfortable with.  Make sure the one you're wanting to stick with has updated the su binary and is able to grant applications SU access, and then remove the one you don't want.  You may have to be forceful if it's in /system/app....i.e. go delete it with a root explorer type program.

10.1 WINDOWS RELEASE

o) I hate root.  Did I mention keeping it is a pain in the ass?

o) Added new Protect root and Restore root functions (can be used on JB)

o) Switched to Koush Superuser and su binary

o) Will attempt to clean up ChainDD Superuser.apk if possible

o) Reinstalls Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper

WARNING: Anyone who's used 9.8->10.0 needs to uninstall Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.  Rooting, protecting root, and/or restoring root will reinstall Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper for you with a working version.  Oops.

NOTE: Root method in the HoB to install root can only work on ICS.  Protect and Restore will work on JB+ as long as root is installed.

Samuri just so I am clear the protect root and restore root function is when you FXZ when in JB.  And If so in what order do you use it FXZ Protect root restore root.  Or is it just for the JB update from ICS.  I am just wondering because my buddy has a bionic and in the next day or so I am going to upgrade it to JB for him.  If anything should go wrong just want to know how you set this up and what exactly it could be used for.

The root exploit does NOT work on JB. You need to use Dan's new Linux based exploit.  If you are on ICS, the pattern to use is this...with the 246_FXZ installed:

o) FXZ Keep Data (or Full if you want a clean install...FULL will erase all user data)

o) Root (will automatically run the protect root function)

o) Protect su with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper (installed by the root exploit now)

o) Update to JB using the OTA

o) Restore root with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper

IF that fails, the Restore root function in the HoB will restore it for you using some seriously brute freaking force methods.   :D  I tested the crap out of protect and restore.  It sometimes has issues restoring Superuser but if you run into that let me know.  I THINK it should be fixed now.  I also forcibly remove all previous Superuser.apk installs.  That does NOT include SuperSU but I do install Koush Superuser and su anyway.  You can always switch back to SuperSU once it's done if you want.

While in RSD v5.7, HoB says Flashing..._FXZ.xml, Flashing...Webtop.xml, Flashing...radio.xml

RSD says in status to "please power up this phone manually" result says "in process"

I didn't think I should touch the phone,(waited about 15 minutes with nothing happening) out of shear fear of wrath...i did anyway.

Manually power up the phone and that's where I am. i am sure messed up somehow, so be kind:)

EDIT: I lost root earlier today, NOT during this process.

Alright then it sounds like updating him will be hassle free.

Haven't touched the ota yet so bear with me please... Running liquid using safestrap. Can I simply reboot into stock slot which is untouched unmodified, uninstall safe strap, and run hob 10.1 utility menu, root to set me up with voodoo, proper su binaries, hob protection? Then take the ota and restore root with voodoo or hob restore? Or am I over simplifying?
