WARNING: Someone has said the su-backup does not work. Manually create the backup with Voodoo BEFORE taking the update.
I will look into it, but, heed my warning.

Still doesn't work. Sigh. Will do more work on it tomorrow. I think I know the last issue.

Just used HoB and got to say thank you so much. It was simple and quick enough to FXZ by following directions. Only hiccups I came across was the device not being recognized in fastboot mode (which restarting the whole process fixed) and for some reason the superuser app was not installed but I didn't see any error messages about that. Simply installing from the play store fixed that and everything seems to have worked out. Once again, thanks!

9.9 WINDOWS RELEASE
o) One more try at fixing su-backup. Hopefully I got it right this time. Needs testing.
How to test (MUST BE ON ICS!!!):
o) FXZ (either Keep Data or FULL)
o) Root with HoB
o) Verify Superuser and Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper are installed
o) Verify su is backed up and protected by opening Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and checking status
o) Verify that su binary is latest by going into Superuser, going to the info tab, and checking
I need verification on all points.

OK. I have an unrooted ICS with update pending. I can test. Just tell me what to do.
Posted 19 April 2013 - 07:25 AM
The steps I outlined above. Don't take the JB update until all 3 things I say above that need to be verified are in fact verified.

My Voodoo didn't work. Now I am on Jellybean. How can I restore root? Can I go back to ICS, root and then try again?

I *LOVE* vague "didn't work" posts. : And no, you can't go back to ICS. You will brick trying.

Sorry. MY ota kept failing. So I installed the update manually. Somehow I list everything. Reinstalled Voodoo, and the backup is not there?

That's not what we consider "good". Connect the phone to USB, make sure usb debugging is enabled, and set it to mtp mode. Open a command prompt to some place you have adb (The House of Bionic has it in the utils dir) and type the following:
adb shell "ls -al /system/usr"
Give me the output of that.

Hi, I opened HOB, and selected Utilities. I didn't see an option for adb?
Posted 19 April 2013 - 09:27 AM
Um, this is going to be a very long day if you don't follow instructions. I didn't say run the House of Bionic. I said open a command prompt to some place that contains the adb.exe file. sigh. I guess we'll spell this out....
o) Open windows explorer
o) Go to the desktop
o) Click into the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic directory
o) Holding the shift key, right click the utils directory
o) From the pop up menu, select Open command prompt here
o) Type the following command in the command prompt:
adb shell "ls -al /system/usr"
Highlight the window with the mouse, right click to select. Paste it into a reply here.

Yea, sadly you have no root backup so you've lost root. There's nothing that can be done. I'm in the same boat as are numerous others. The only thing we can do is hope that a new root exploit comes out, but, that's not guaranteed as DJRBliss has quit. Welcome to hell.
