Question: do you have to be rooted to have root via adb? Wouldn't a debug tool be useless without root? Could someone just copy and paste the RAZR system/usr/we-need-root from a rooted voodooed RAZR and then use voodoo to find it? Probably a stupid question, but I can't quit thinking about it.

Question 2: once we have a rooted bionic (clean with no added apps) could the system/bin from a rooted one (maybe even from another OMAP device) be incorporated into an FXZ?

Already answered that question in numerous threads, "AHA pm's", and elsewhere.  NO.  Root isn't so simple.  The "trick" is getting system writeable so you can copy su to it.  That's the exploit part.  Until su is there and has root.root perms, you ain't got shit.

Also no.  How do you propose to flash a modified img file that has to be signed?

The light comes on. The SIG, if you edit the signed image break the SIG, of course, thanks Sam.

Sorry, I don't mean to be so annoying with my responses, but, I've had to deal with this kind of thing in the HTPC world for years with regard to people's "amazing cinavia solutions that NO ONE ELSE has thought of!"  The issue here is that exploiting kernel bugs to gain root access is not a simplistic venture.  Why do you think the master Dan is quitting?  It's too time consuming and most of the good exploits are already patched.  If it were simple, I promise you people like Dan wouldn't look for the hard ways to do it.  LOL.  The so called "simple" ways to do it were patched long ago.  Us mere mortals have no hope of solving complex problems like cinavia and root.  The big boys need to work through those problems.

You're not annoying Sam. I ask you because I want someone to give me a clear, concise , definitive answer. You're really good at that.

It speaks volumes when you refer to guys like Dan as the "big boys". I'm sure I'm not alone in saying you're part of that club too.

Okay so I'm wondering....
In adb, I was able to just use the su command to get the #. I also was able to use the su-backup. I'm wondering would anyone be able to just use adb to push su, busybox, and superuser, as well as swap the mount of system to rw to do so? I only had half root when I did this. Not sure if that made a difference. I had su in my bin folder, as well as the back up. Im sure there s something I don't see, but just tossing something out there based on my experience. And would having su in bin allow the su command to work in adb?
