Ok, after reading a myrid of posts on this thread, the General forum and of course our muchly beloved Moot thread, I find the call of JB becoming iresistable so before I jump, I would like to ask the users of this fine site to check my logic (at the risk of incurring Samuri wrath or being exiled to one of the corners), these are the steps I'm contemplating to do this insane thing:

1. Backup internal and external SD cards to laptop

2. Boot into SS recovery and delete all slots

3. Boot into stock and uninstall SS

4. Use HoB to FXZ just to be sure all is clean

5. Use HoB to reroot gleaming new Bionic 246

6. Update Superuser app

7. Update Superuser binary

8. Dowload VoodooOTA and use it to install trojan protection for root

9. Copy previously downloaded JB update to root of SD card

10.Boot into stock recovery with shaking fingers

11. Apply update while guzzling either Merlo or possibly Jack D

12. Reboot and use VoodooOTA to reinstall previously trojaned root

13. Do happy dance since I now have rooted JB

Is the thinking right, should I pull the JB plug or have I just wasted everyones time?

That is what I did. Every thing worked fine. Still have root.  My Bionic is now what it should have been when it was first released

Shouldn't this be uninstall recovery from within safe strap? The app itself can stay.

whoa, good catch! Of course, doing the full FXZ would kill the app anyway (which is probably what I will do just to be absolutley, postively, 101% sure).

I'm thinking after today, you're just gonna stick with the rum (and you certainly deserve it!).

Just a tad, yea. I was getting seriously annoyed. I must have helped literally over a thousand people between September and November.

Yes, that was fun. :p Are you there yet?

Yea, guys, I got this. Really. :) I don't want Staf to do a whole bunch of crap to get root back when she's done, so, I'll handle it.

I'm ignoring all of them anyway

Great job Staf!!! :)

Process I'm trying to follow:

Unfortunately, I don't got to Step 4. I have used the House of Bionic threads but it appears as though I'm stuck.

I downloaded and installed the recommended Motorola drivers.

Downloaded and installed the HoB 9.5 client and the HoBRSD 5.7.

Downloaded the FXZ and copied to the instructioned directory.

Attempted to FXZ flash the phone. All the steps go off without any issues. Phone reboots several times with RSD launched.

The command prompt window gets to the last step indicating that the phone will reboot into recovery to install the radio and to be patient, at which time pressing enter causes the window to close.

The phone boots up, displays the red Motorola logo, and then sits at a blank screen indefinitely while still being powered on.

I have attempted the FXZ process multiple times with the same result. The Bootloader is still able to be launched, and I can get to the AP Fastboot sceen as well as Stock Recovery, but it does not boot into the OS and does not move past the blank screen immediately following the Motorola logo.

I have tried to install the FXZ using the RSD process as well as switching to the Fastboot process. same results. The flashing gets to the last step indicating the Radio will be installed in recovery, but then nothing happens and same blank screen as described following Motorola logo.

Thoughts? Help?

Give me the swdl.txt file in the HoB\RSD directory.  I wanna see what RSD thinks its doing.  However, you may have no choice but to FDR from recovery.  Welcome to a completely wiped phone if that's the case.  Let me see the log first though.

Ok, READ CAREFULLY else it's your ass if you lose root.  I have updated the root method included in the HoB.  It is NOT for JB.  I can't stress that enough.  What it IS for is those who are on ICS and want a clean start before taking the OTA.  This should give you a MAJOR headstart if I coded it properly.  The thing is, I can't test it.  So you're responsible for testing whether it works.  Here's what you need to do if you use this:

o) FXZ Keep Data

o) Root using the HoB

o) VERIFY in Play store that Superuser is up to date.

o) VERIFY in Superuser that the su binary is up to date on the info tab.

o) VERIFY in VoodooOTARootkeeper that su is backed up.  I can't stress enough that this is UNTESTED!!!

Once those things are verified and you are happy, go ahead and install the update.

Not yet.  It's only half the puzzle.  But it's a VERY big half.  Just sit tight.  I'll announce soon.  Maybe 15 minutes or so.

Very nice. Don't often get big surprises from the Samuri. This should be good.
