Yeah, it was a fleeting thought while perusing the files in my Android desktop folder, i understand the risk and its not worth the potential of losing root. The days of reckless abandon are over lol

Play on SS. You can back up your stock system and flash it to a slot in SS. Then knock yourself out.

still getting root on JB for the Bionic has to be somewhat the same as before. I have noticed (although i might be wrong) getting root from GB to ICS only seems to have changes in the files names and locations for getting root. Meaning how root was achieved not where the su and superuser files go. Not having any knowledge of the Razr i would assume the same thing goes for it as well. I know i might be wrong but i doubt getting root for JB Bionic is much different. I think it is just a matter of finding the right files to use in acquiring root.
Someone please let me know if i am wrong.
All known exploits are patched. It won't be that simple.

It's a whole new ballgame. Had we gotten OTA sooner, those exploits wouldn't have been patched for us but then again, another group would be rootless. I'm still hoping that we'll have a working exploit but I'm not putting the OTA on this Bionic until then!

I lived on SS for almost a year and enjoyed it but I'll hold off lol. I would like to add CWM for the backup ability though

DO NOT DO IT. That's where all the encryption failure crap has come from. Hold off on bootstrap recovery of any variety.

You won't have to tell me twice! Lol. I thought the last version of SS that i used had CWM for backup solution but i am probably incorrect.

I don't have any idea what SS uses as I've never used it. SS is fine. BS is not.

He's right...the first time I experienced the encryption failure was after I flashed xmas jelly on my RAZR, rooted, installed bootstrap touch standalone CWM revovery, told it to flash itself, it said success, tried to reboot into bootstrap, blam, encryption failure I could get into stock recovery though, I'd reflash the update, FDRX2, wipe cacheX2, later rinse repeat several times (a dozen?) it finally booted into JB again, I FDRed and wiped it one more time to have a clean OS install, DLed Rom Toolbox Pro, restored app backups, done. Root was still voodooed. I got lucky, but I figured if bootstrap/Jelly Bean was the problem if I formatted internal storage and took everything off the sd_ext but the update and FDRed/Cached it it had to eventually work. I was super lucky, there wasn't an FXZ for almost another month (I flashed it 2nd week in Feb I think). I've sent Koush a msg but haven't heard back yet., Takes him a day or two sometimes.

Considering what I've read and kinda understand, and all the work that Sam and others have done (returned to stock with HoB multiple times including not long ago) it might seem blasphemous that I didn't try to keep root. But I'm pretty happy with JB on Nexus unrooted and I figured I'd be able to live with it on Bionic as well. Granted I'm paying for data on Nexus so the tether isn't needed on it. That I might miss in some scenario down road, I guess.

ya its without a doubt BS thats causing the Encryption Unsuccessful. (which ironically, if i recall correctly, the the screen its on is sorta blue.. hah "blue screen of dealth) everyone i know that has installed bootstrap and booted in CWM recovery has gotten the neo BSOD.. (not sure if all version cause it, but i was using BS touch)
**So ive always held out on adding a donate link because this is just something i do for enjoyment.. but i have received a few requests recently to add one.. so if you enjoy my work and would like to buy me a beer or put some gas in my car, that would be very much appreciated.. but please continue to freely enjoy my mods without any feeling of obligation what-so-ever.. the last thing i want by adding this is for people to stop using my mods because they fell obligated.. Thanks

Attempted to manually install the JB update tonight, but keep getting a status 7 assert failed error on webtop/app/swype.apk. I didn't disable webtop when I used HoB last, and went back and checked the folder to verify. Would I be better suited to run HoB Utilities and attempt to repair webtop? Or just do a full FXZ again?
No root, by the way. Just a normal install.

Thanks again Sam for all the work and the beauty that is the HoB.
When I decided to jump into the pool during the ICS 244, 246, and 247 days, it really helped me out.
Last night I got the "system update available," however it failed to install and I tried multiple times to do it in recovery when I copied it to my SD-ext card. I kept getting a "System 7" failure. Well I did my homework here, found some answers, and of course it lead me back to the House. I did my first ever 246_FXZ, re-rooted, updated my SU app, voodoo'd, applied the update in stock recovery, now I'm getting my first look at JB while waiting for Voodoo to restore root (hoping that all goes well).
EDIT: It appears I still have Root. Thanks again for the guidance.

Ok, after reading a myrid of posts on this thread, the General forum and of course our muchly beloved Moot thread, I find the call of JB becoming iresistable so before I jump, I would like to ask the users of this fine site to check my logic (at the risk of incurring Samuri wrath or being exiled to one of the corners), these are the steps I'm contemplating to do this insane thing:
1. Backup internal and external SD cards to laptop
2. Boot into SS recovery and delete all slots
3. Boot into stock and uninstall SS
4. Use HoB to FXZ just to be sure all is clean
5. Use HoB to reroot gleaming new Bionic 246
6. Update Superuser app
7. Update Superuser binary
8. Dowload VoodooOTA and use it to install trojan protection for root
9. Copy previously downloaded JB update to root of SD card
10.Boot into stock recovery with shaking fingers
11. Apply update while guzzling either Merlo or possibly Jack D
12. Reboot and use VoodooOTA to reinstall previously trojaned root
13. Do happy dance since I now have rooted JB
Is the thinking right, should I pull the JB plug or have I just wasted everyones time?

You have my seal of approval. Skip nothing. Follow that like a checklist, including the merlot and/or jack.
