New phone?  How did you swing that?

Got encryption on my bionic messed up somehow not sure really when the guy at the store seen it he was like you will have a new phone at your house tomorrow.

Have encryption working perfectly on the updated JB ROM on SS Slot 3. Unencrypted on Stock side. What did you do to bork the phone?

You guys are better at this than I am.  sigh.  :)

No were not. You just scare us enough to be verrrry carrrful!!! :)

It's not that big of a download.  That sucks.

Delete one of your slots and open up some room for the Download. You won't be able to use Icarus HD or any other ICS based ROMs after upgrading. So use the space.
KEXEC ROMS still work fine, but at this point don't encrypt.

Sam, any info about an upgraded SS. I saw a post earlier yesterday, but don't recall the details. I think it was Matigoff ?

Ok everyone it seems using Sam's knowledge and moto-fastboot paid off on flashing the 246 system.img and preinstall.img. I am now installing the update again through stock recovery. I know this means i don't have root but all the same it gets your phone working again.

does anyone know if not having webtop will stop me from flashing the JB OTA? I ask because I'm on a 32 bit system and it won't attempt to flash webtop though I've done it manually in the past. Will this interfere with the JB OTA install?

one other thing, I had SS installed when I FXZd to 246 but that replaced the recovery right? I don't have to take any more steps to remove it?

As I replied in PM, if you don't have ICS unscrewed with webtop, then you'll get an error 7 assert failure.

Either uninstall SS or FXZ...either will remove it.

tried to FXZ to 246, which was successful but did not flash the webtop because the HOB detected a 32 bit system. So I had to flash webtop manually which somehow resulted in the screen not coming on after boot. Everything else responded except the screen so I pulled battery and reflashed 246 but same problem. Subsequent attempts to flash 246 FXZ failed after hanging at one spot or another indefinitely. And now the battery is too low to program and the flash failure means I can't charge the battery without an external charger which I've lost so I need to shell out another 40 bucks to get my 2 year old phone working again. f%$kING LOVING IT

Thanks, but here is my dilemma. I dl'd JB update from your link. Flashed back to stock, made sure su binary was up to date, voodoo'd and then removed ss. I then went into stock recover and the update failed. :( it aborts.

Now, the stock rom was recreated a few weeks back using this:

I wonder if that borked the original stock ROM OR I have a bad download from your link (not that your link is bad) but maybe it didn't dl all the way or something.

If that stock rom using the aforementioned link broke it, i will now have to wait 2 weeks to get to my laptop as I am on biz travel and use the Chromebook. :( But, I can always reinstall SS and CM Rom's to hold me over.

The dev of the link referenced updated his ICS "stock ROM" file and now one can use that in SafeStrap in order  to get into stock recovery to update  to JB! It worked like a charm and I didn't need to FXZ or anything. I paid heed to OTA rootkeeping and updating su binary and kept root as well. Forums like these are great and informative and very useful. You guys on here are the best!

In case it's news: If you updated to jb ota, kept root, and got safestrap running again, you can back up your stock ROM and then restore it to
A ROM slot and it boots.

This is why they invented the factory cables.  Take the battery out completely for all it cares.  :D  I have 2 adapters and a full cable in my arsenal.
