I formatted a new SD card, downloaded and copied it's Cole on external SD card, restored and reflashed 246 with HOB kept data, restored and protected root and tried to flash update. Got an E: signature authentication failed. Any suggestions? Sam I am?

With that limited info of course not. If you post the full error maybe. Did you verify the md5 on the update on your scared? Just a guess but it might be corrupt.

sorta read your mind sam, flashed the whole FXZ with RSD 6.1 (I use 6.1 for standalone RSD and 5.7 in the house)

My set up before the update:
SuperSU Pro with survival mode set on (NO Voodoo installed).
Updated the binary
I did NOT temp unroot
Updated to JB
Root is still there.
So just SuperSU in survival mode will save root.
discalmer: your mileage may vary, it worked for me but it might not work for you.

Cause I'm a f%$king moron. I rewrote OTA Rootkeeper and had my test version installed when I did a root backup. FAIL.
Maybe a stupid question, but could you not copy a rootkeeper backup file from a working rooted bionic...AND somehow trick the unrooted phone?

You need root to write to the system directory. And the security changed levels, so there is no going back to ICS.

My apologies, guess my question was vague. So here it is in detail. I took the update last night and kept root though OTA Rootkeeper. Could you not extract that backup file, install it on a bionic that lost root and trick OTA rootkeeper into thinking was a backup made and restore it? I know little about the file system of android but I've many of luck with PC files systems.

Ok, thanks for the short answer. Sorry about your woes Sam. You've really helped us greatly and made us more aware of our phones capabilities. I'm sure you'll find the fix to get us all back on track. Short note, the new alarm clock scared the crap out of me this morning, but I was 30 minutes early to work because of it.

Yea I'm totally screwed. Had I gone with my original plan of backing up with both super su and voodoo I'd be okay right now but I didn't. And there's no hope for those of us that lost root. We could try a root bounty but who's seriously going to work on root for this dead end phone? Sigh.
Didn't sarge say he and kaos may be able to get something? Or was that a dead end?

Samuri - if you want to guide me through manual flashing to fix my borked Bionic that would be helpful. I have the HOB all setup and my phone in fastboot mode. RSD Lite shows it is connected.
I don't have any experience with RSD, except what the HOB has used it for.

I've only been messing with the exploits we already have. It looked promising when the Bionic got the new files apk, but got no joy there.

Get that file. Create a 987222 directory in the root of the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic directory. Put the update zip and the boot.img file into that directory. With your phone connected to USB and in fastboot mode, load HoB. Select the 987222 options, then select reinstall. Follow directions. You will not be able to root, either, so, welcome to my hell if this works.
